Squeezing out empty space

I always seem to wind up with gaps between my clips. Is there any way to select a bunch of clips and squeeze out all of the empty space between them?

Doing them one-by-one challenges my patience. Jerry Schwartz

I know of no method in PD9 or a suitable workaround to auto compress a series of clips.
