Does this apply to any clip you place in the library, what about other projects you have created, can you add clips to the timeline and view them.

Can you view the sample clips from the timeline.

Have you tried a reinstall of PDR9 build 2330, make sure you uninstall WaveEditor and PhotoNow, it could just be a corrupt file that's causing the problem.

You can view the clips from the library but not from the video track - you can however view the clips in the PIP tracks.

I think a complete removal of PD8 and a reluctant upgrade to PD9 2330a seems to be the way to go.

I'll install PD8 again on another laptop.

Everything was working so well with PD8 - until now.

With an ATI graphics card you need to install build 2330 not 2330a, which is for Nvidia cards only.

Just as a follow up I did a complete uninstall of PD8 and upgraded my ATI video drivers.

I then upgraded to PD9 2330 and:

Exactly the same. The preview panel is black regardless of where you put a clip. See above attachments (albeit PD.

Any ideas as to what has 'gone' wrong would be greatly appreciated. Happing editing

Well, I cannot see anything wrong with your DxDiag, all appears up to date,

When did this issue first become apparent, have you installed any new programs that may be in conflict, to have this issue with PDR8 & PDR9 indicates that it is not a PD problem, but something on your computer.

Can any other member offer a possible solution?

My interpretation is that PD uses differing video overlays when viewing the timeline and the media library, which explains the differing results often seen by editors, and the sometimes odd behaviour of clips in the timeline ??

Can't remember the exact details but I had consistent problems in beta testing with black previews/unable to screen capture/ etc etc.

The only solution that I found that consistently worked was to change the registry entry HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Cyberlink\PowerDirector\9.0\

Key VideoRenderer

Default value = VMR7
Change to VMR9

Change it at your own risk.

Couldn't see/didn't experience any downside but........

With PD9 2330 VMR7 seems to work fine, but I have changed my motherboard in the interim!!

Hi Robert, I haven't changed or updated anything - it's as thought the preview screen has been 'converted to a black rectangle that no light can get through!

Sometimes that happens to me, but not every single video. Usually if I'm working on a project for long periods of time and go back to it, some of the videos will be blackened out and I have to go back and remove them and replace them. I simply just remove the videos in the video track and replace them again. But I've never had that happen with every video placed there.
