I'd like to make and use a video clip as a PIP object, but as I said in another post it looks like a video always has an opaque black background. So how do you make a moving PIP object (like the "zzzz" that comes with the program)?

Here's a quickie on creating your own PIP object.
You may or may not find it amusing.
