How to change duration of slideshow?

First, sorry if I was a little "animated" in my previous couple posts. A couple problems were driving me crazy and after several hours I let it get to me.

To my question, I haven't figured out how to change alter the length of a clip when doing a slideshow. Say I simply have one picture, choose slideshow and then motion. It seems to default to about 5 seconds. It won't let me drag the clip in the timeline and alter the duration either. Is there a way around this?

Thanks again.

Jason,
Yes you can change the duration. There are a couple ways.
First is to place the clip in the track you prefer, then highlight it and click the duration tab, then set to whatever length you'd like it to be.
Another way is to click on the picture in the track and hold the cursor over the right side of the picture. You will see two arrows appear, once that happens hold down the right mouse and slide it to the length you like.
Cheers!

Hi Jasons,

If you are using the Slideshow Motion template, then the duration of the slides is predetermined and can't be changed. But there is a way around it...to a certain degree.

Here is a short tutorial that I made to halp with this problem. Basically you create your slideshow and then produce it to a video file. Then you bring back the produced video and then apply the Power Tool to eith slow down or speed up the video to fit your time preferences.

Have a look:

If you need any clarification on any part of this...just let me know.

Kevin

As Cap'n Kevin says, you can not change the slideshow templates.

His method does work at the expense of changing the playback speed and if you have music on the slideshow, the music is also speeded up or slowed down.

You can place all of your pictures on the timeline Select all of them then change the duration of the first image to be displayed. The duration is applied to all images.

Adding transitions is fairly easy, if you are lazy as I am you can just select to apply random transitions to all images.

Or you can go the long route and add the desired transition between each image.

Produce the video and you are done.

Carl, my tutorial adds the music after the slideshow has been created and produced to a video file....this way the slideshow duration can be changed to match the duration of the desired music choice exactly.

Just thought I would make that part clear....but I know what you mean....if you added music at the point of crwating the slideshow.....then this would affect the music speed.

Hey Cap'n,

Adding music after the production would solve the problem of changing the music duration. Carl312: Windows 10 64-bit 8 GB RAM,AMD Phenom II X4 965 3.4 GHz,ATI Radeon HD 5770 1GB,240GB SSD,two 1TB HDs.

Well I guess I read this question wrong. I thought he was simply wanting to add pictures and set the duration that the pictures were viewed before going to the next picture.
Sorry if I confused you Jason. But that seriously is the way I read it. Saving the world, one goofy video and meme at a time.

Hey Kevin(the Gallant one),

We haven't heard back from Jason yet...and if he wants to use the MOTION in his slideshow, then he can do it the way you described.

But if he is using the SLIDESHOW MOTION TEMPLATE...then he will have to make some adjustments.

I keyed in on his phrase:
choose slideshow and then motion

which made me think he was using the Slideshow button and then choosing the Motion template.

I think your way would be the BEST way to make a slideshow using the motion effects.

If you are going for " timed" effect, where certain pictures pop up at certain breaks, beats, arpeggios etc. then you may want to try it manually. Cap'n Kevin's idea is fantastic if you want them tossed in and the time split equally.

I thought we did too Dafydd, Like I said, my way was for the dramatic effect of tempo / beat changes, cymbal crashes etc. to match the picture timing. But it's all right now.................................... in fact it's a gas! Saving the world, one goofy video and meme at a time.
