Running Win 7 with PD8. When I open a new prodject, those pesky pics come into the library (Ginko.jpg, Maple Leaves, Nature, Saxophone, Street Light and Train). I remove/delete from library and then hit save, but when I close and re-open the project, they return in the Media Room.

I tried right-click and "delete from disc", its says:

Sample Clip can't be deleted.
The current permission settings do not allow...

I attempted reseting the permissions, but no luck on deleting the files. Is there another way,,, OR may someone assist me in the premission settings issue (maybe I'm not doing it right, being that I'm new to windows 7).

Thank you for any replies.

Alt+c to bring up preference menu, under the file tab near the bottom untick "Automatically load sample clips when PowerDirector opens"

Hi Craig -

As a side note, that folder at C:\Program Files (x86)\CyberLink\PowerDirector\SampleClips is a handy thing to use if you have particular images or other media you want to use in all your projects... like a watermark.

Just drop a copy in the folder & it will always be there in the media library.

Cheers - Tony

Craig, just keep in mind that path dir is totally blown away with each release of PD and also if you do a reinstall. Have a backup of your files of that directory, or as Tony implied, a copy, so you have them in the future. Too many learn the hard way.

I myself use a starter pds file that has all my commonly used stuff already saved in it, I simply use this to launch PD with so I have my own frequently used vid, pics, and audio from a path that I maintain in every launch. That way I don't have to worry about forgetting to back up a system program file dir during a panic reinstall of PD.

JL,

Is using the Power Director Script File (as a starter), similar to "packing project materials"? I recently found out how to do this export when I had to change computers in the middle of a prodject. I was having a hard time with browsing for all my files and then this forum came to the rescue again! So I've been doing this for all my finished projects just incase I needed to switch PCs again or if something bad happens. Would this still work if I had to reinstalled/ugrade the PD program?

Or, how does one do the method you described. I'm not sure exactly how to backup a file of that directory or use the pds file to launch PD (in your description). I am still learning and was hoping you could give the steps, if and when you have the time. Thank you.

Best regards,
Craig

The way he described it will not save the project if you move computers. It just has a base project with all of the files already imported. It's a starting point for new projects. Open PD. Import the files that you commonly use and save. Then next time just double click on the saved project.
Packing a project makes copies of the files in one location so they can be moved and PD will know where to look for them on the new computer. __________________________________

I agree, whoever thought it was a brilliant idea to have those stupid pictures pop up each time you open a new project should be shot. I delt with that for months till I finally researched it and changed the settings. I am so ready to ditch this software, get a MAC and Final Cut.

I am not sure how to respond.....It should be a simple matter to disable the loading of the sample files.

The sample files are frequently used as a diagnostic tool. We occasionally have a user load the sample files onto the timeline and then test to producing a video file or burning to disc. It can very often eliminate many variables...of which there are many that can effect a produced error of some kind.

Power Director is not for everyone.....but for me it meets and exceeds(most of the time) my expectations. And I am sure that you know that there is about an $800.00 price difference between the two applications. I do understand that you are frustrated. Maybe Power Director just won't work on your system.

Regards,

KEvin

I agree Kevin, it's a bit of an unfair comparison given the price difference but when something doesn't work I'd almost pay 5 times more to avoid the frustration. Also, I'm going to be starting with Final Cut Express which is $200. Power Director 8 has for the most part been decent but these few hiccups are enough to make me want to switch.

Off topic but to continue the frusration, when I log in here it puts a big ad up trying to sell me stuff, there's no direct link to the forums? I have to go to the home page, customer service, then the forums. Again, added headache from Cyberlink.

You could always add this page, Power Director 8, to your browser favorites. That is what I do and it automatically has my user name and passwrd saved so it loads right up.

I have the forum book marked under this link and get no ads whatsoever. I simply click on PD8 and it's off to fun and games and helping my fellow videophiles.
