I thought I saw that if you have the DivX codecs installed, you can generate DivX right from PowerDirector. If so, I haven't been able to find out where.

Right now I've been using DivX converter to turn mpg2 into DivX, but that's an extra step I'd just as soon avoid. Jerry Schwartz

It appears that DivX (and other avi compressors) are available in PD9 32bit but not in PD9 64bit. Something to do with 64 bit codecs I'm told.

Cheers

Has anybody tried the K-lite 64 bit codecs in Windows 7 64 bit and PowerDirector 9

I do not have Win7 or PD9.

I have no idea if the K-lite 64 bit pack will help. Carl312: Windows 10 64-bit 8 GB RAM,AMD Phenom II X4 965 3.4 GHz,ATI Radeon HD 5770 1GB,240GB SSD,two 1TB HDs.

Now Barry, you have had issues with DivX for a long time, even if PDR9 64 bit did have DivX capability, the probabilities are that you would still not be able to access it.
By the way, do you now have the SmartSound option available to you, works well on both my 32 bit and 64 bit systems

Have a good day

Now RJ,
seems you've snuck out of your "room", and somehow accessed the hospital computers. Bad RJ. Bad.
Yes, I have Smartsound, except I have found it won't recognize ownership at least a few of my files within the sub-groups, but can access them fine through "All Music".
And, alas, bilby-breath, I don't think anyone here has 64bit Divx in PD9.

My dear Barry,
So nice to see you are back in form throwing insults around at will.

Does mummy know that you are playing on her computer again, naughty boy, however as I do not engage in that sort of behaviour, I always try to act with some sort of decorum, I will respond to your last post (when it's played for you, can we come, just to make sure).

I agree with you that there are still some issues with SmartSound, my SmartSound folder indicates that I have 186 tracks, the SmartSound data base when accessed through PDR9 indicates 123 tracks and PDR9 recognises 114 of them, but at least it's working.

Is 64 bit DivX available anywhere, a major point of contention on the DivX forums

Your sparing partner downunder

Robert

First I looked up Aussie animals. The internet is amazing.
Now, my friend, my OTHER NLE has full HD Divx,
PD8 was working fine in Divx on both my machines, and even PD6.5 can see SD Divx. Annoying. No, not you, my amigo, corporate decisions, I suppose they make sense to someone.

There is another thread I was involved in just a few days ago here about this very item. Cyberlink is surely aware, but have decided to not tackle the subject. I am pretty certain that's the end of the story.

EDIT!
I have recently found an excellent free screen-capture program that can capture to a multitude of AVI types, I was shocked to see DIVX, Cinepak, Helix, Intel, Xvid, Microsoft, and others.
Focus on Divx, and free, on 64bit Windows 7.
PM me if you want the link, it's a good find.

Try it without any good result just a bunch of more trash to the computer. I will unistall K-Lite, no need for now.

Hi Barry,

I also have full HD DivX on both my machines, DivX on the 32 bit laptop is available in PDR9, but not on the 64 bit desktop.

Are you saying, ol buddy, that with PDR8 you had DivX working on your 64 bit system, because, as we are all aware it is not available in PDR9, if so, what has changed on the cutting room floor, maybe they snipped off a bit too much, about 64 bits to much.

Hi Nicolas,

I agree with you about K-Lite, have never found a use for it, ffdshow is the only pack I have installed.

I think you missed an important point: PD8 is a 32-bit application, regardless of what platform it runs on. As such it uses the 32-bit APIs, of which the DivX interface is one.

PD9, on a 64-bit OS, installs its own 64-bit version. A 64-bit program normally uses the 64-bit APIs, and apparently DivX does not supply a 64-bit version of itself. Hence PD9 doesn't see or use it.

If you could force PD9 to install its 32-bit version on your 64-bit W7 platform, it would see and use the DivX codec. Of course, you'd lose any benefit of the 64-bit version.

It is possible to write a 64-bit program to use a 32-bit API, but apparently that wasn't done. It would add complexity to the program.

If you want another example, consider the 64-bit version of Internet Explorer. It doesn't integrate itself with most antivirus software, because they are 32-bit. So even Microsoft found this an avenue not worth pursuing. (I do not use the 64-bit version of IE, for that very reason.) Jerry Schwartz

I new Nightmare for Barry (and me to).

Bary , has you already know, I was using PD9 in my Win7 64bits computer and using PD8 in the Virtual XP machine (same computer). Guest what? Just for fun, I have recently installed Divx on the virtual machine and DIVX works in PD8!

32 bit or 64 bit?
to be or not to be..!
That is the question…. of DIVx.
Robert have it work,
Bary not
We not

It’s a DIVX a caos.?
That’s is not the question…
PD9 it’s the DIVX caos in some cases and other not.

The real question for CL is::

Why DIVX (any version) works for some people (any 32 or 64bit) and for others no?

Hi Nicholas,

DivX is available on PDR8 because it a a 32 bit program, so it does not matter whether your computer is 32 bit or 64 bit.

As Jerry has pointed out, PDR9 is a 64 bit program and DivX have not as yet released a 64 bit version, so it would appear that PDR9 cannot recognise a 32 bit DivX, when installed on a 64 bit operating system, but is available if PDR9 is installed on a 32 bit operating system

So, I don't think that CyberLink are to blame for the lack of DivX in PDR9, if you read the DivX forums there are many requests for a 64 bit version, but no response whatsoever from DivX Labs.

Robert

It is a fact that we will not have Divx in PD9, we must learn to live with that limitation. HP Envy Phoenix/4thGen i7-4770(4@3.4GHz~turbo>3.9)
