How to use Green Screen (Chroma Key)

I'm trying to do it like I used to in version 8, but no matter what I do, it only will show the picture background, not the video! Is there a new way to use chroma key in version 9?

Hi Kaytra

Welcome to the forum!

As far as I know the PD8 'way' should be the same.

What you could try is to use your video footage in a different video/PIP/audio track.

Good luck

Hello I new to PowerDirector and I watched some of your videos! They are pretty cool. Can you please tell me if there is a way to change a video's background? Thanks!

Hi Yazzy,

If you re talking about say a person standing with a building or landscape in the background and changing the background while keeping the person, unfortunately it is not possible in PD.

Having said, that if you took a video of the person in front of a green screen, or pink for that matter, you can bring that video into PD and replace the green/pink background with a new video.

Cheers

so where would I buy a green screen? is that something I can get over the internet? Do you know if there is any other editing video programs that could do that? I am trying to create a video of myself for my website and I am recoding it in my house and I really would like to change the backbground. Thanks for your help!

Honestly Yazzy if you are trying to do this yourself and want it to look professional, you will need a lot of skill and patients.

A few of the posters here have played with doing this and may come along with some tips, but know this it is not an easy thing to make look good.

Regarding any editing program that can take a normal video and take out the background, maybe one used by Hollywood, not one used by normal people. My youtube channel====> http://www.youtube.com/user/relate2?feature=mhsn

Remember, no wrinkles, even lighting, no wrinkles, even lighting, and just to make sure you get it right....
no wrinkles, even lighting....get my drift?

You will see, I did not get it perfect, in fact, I played a trick by putting the audience in to hide "green-bits" at the bottom. I also made those people move slightly, it actually added to the production quality.

What you want to do is difficult, even with stills. I've tried removing the background from a still, and it is very hard to do. As Robert2 S said, you need a lot of patience.

To do this with video you really do need a green screen, but PD9 still makes it even more difficult because it lacks one thing: a tolerance setting for the color. If you could adjust the tolerance, you'd have fewer problems with slight irregularities.

It's easy to remove a background, in reality you remove the subject and place it on a transparent background, but that's not chroma-key. Look at this brief explanation.

Hi

Use the studio video on the master video track.

Place your green screen video on a PIP track & adjust to fit screen.

Double click green screen video in PIP then use the the chroma to remove the green.

Hi!! Just wanted you guys to know that you're awesome.
Using the advice listed above and a Youtube PD 9 tutorial, I can officially do green screen

I wouldn't rate is as difficult, more like moderate (unless you're doing multiple backgrounds or something complex).

My initial problem was that I failed to click the "pen" icon (chromakey settings) once in the chromakey screen. Also I kept trying to place a video on the effect line. For pd 9, you can put the background video on the master track line and the foreground video (person in front of green screen) on another video track. It probably doesn't matter, but that's how I got it to work. Thanks again to all the PD experts!!
