Changing transition type disrupts timeline

If you have "Link all tracks" on, changing the duration of a clip will move the stuff on all of the tracks together.

Changing a transition type does not obey that rule! If you change a transition from cross to overlap, or the other way around, everything to the right on the video track will shift. The other tracks will not! Your music, PIP, etc. will be left behind.

Am I missing something? This is a real usability problem.

Yes, it seems to happen when switching from overlap to cross, but not vice versa. I think I got that right. When switching from cross to overlap in my quick experiment, it did shift as expected. __________________________________

What really steamed me is that I upgraded in the middle of a project, and all of my transitions from PD8 turned into overlaps. Not only did that change the effects I wanted, but it brought me to my other problem (unable to "find" the start of a clip that is preceded by an overlap transition).

Boo, hiss.

That's good advice, that you back up your project during editing. Something like this could happen again, especially if you have a large project. A good tip to avoid future headaches.

If I remember correctly; this was an issue Cranston pointed out very clearly during Beta-testing.

Yes, I agree, very annoying!

It's almost impossible to add a transition without putting everything out of sync! Voices etc etc.

Happing editing

What's really horrifying is that grouping objects from different tracks doesn't solve the problem. You'd think that would do it. Jerry Schwartz
