PowerDirector has stopped working
[Post New]
I frequently run across this Windows error when PD8 Ultra is just sitting there. I have either just loaded my project and get distracted or I have moved onto the Create Disc task and sit there for a bit and I'll get the Windows popup crash: "PowerDirector has stopped working"

I'm on Win7 64bit, but shouldn't matter. Not sure what PD could be doing all by itself to cause a crash if I'm not asking it to do anything. Maybe its the advertising agent that I have blocked, though that's not on the Edit screen. Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit

Hi Ken,

The only thing I can think of the Power Director does automatically is the AUTOSAVE function. Default value is every ten minutes.

Try increasing the time value or turning it off for a bit to see if your crashing subsides.

I hope it helps....maybe someone else has some ideas.

Regards,

Kevin

You're probably right and I remember reading that before, but you forget to reset certain things after you reinstall.

I had to fix the registry to let me save BD to disk and apply the latest patch. Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit

I know you are aware of this as well...but others reading it it might help.

Found in PREFERENCES

The "enable file processing to speed up video editing" i.e. Shadow Edit file creation. "ON" by default...user should be prompted to choose to create/not create shadow edit files when importing HD video content into the Media Room.

This is another process that might be occuring in the background while Power Director is open after video clips have been imported into the Media Room and just sitting there churning away making those files. I am not sure if that would in itself cause Power director to stop working...but I suppose it might.
