ERROR!!! The Product Definitation file lost!

Updating from PowerDirector 8 Deluxe to Powerdirector 8 Ultra - an uninstall is required.

I get this message either through the uninstall option at install OR attempting uninstall through Programs from Control Panel.

W7, 32-bit

anyone encounter and successfully get around this problem?

Hi,
I have had experience of this problem before IMO its not specifically related to PD8. It's to do with the Windows Installation Manager. I suggest you do the clean "uninstall process" described by Dafydd, paying particular attention to clearing out all bits of Powerdirector from the Registry and also any "odd" DLL's it has left behind in its old folders. If you then do a clean install you should be OK.

PD8 gets "blamed" for a lot of things its not really guilty of - it is however a very demading but worthwhile application.

Good Luck.

I have received a response on my ticket, including a link to a cleaner - regrettably the .exe simply opens with notepad when clicked... so another ticket got filed...

Hi Dennis -

The most reliable & infallible complete install methods I've used are using Revo Uninstaller http://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_uninstaller_free_download.html (I've only ever used the free version) or CCleaner http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download (also free).

These programs do exactly what Donald was describing.

Cheers - Tony

PS. I received that "definitation" error once & still don't know what it was about, since it's a non-existent word. The complete uninstall/re-install process sorted it out.

Thanks for the responses guys!

Yeah, Revo is probably the way to go, I still hope cyberlink becomes aware of the Uninstall issue, and will continue pursuing that until I get a response - well, for another day or two anyway.
