Just updated my new HP laptop with the DVD Suite Gold from the Cyberlink upgrade site and all seems to have upgraded with no issues or problems

However.. I have a Flip UltraHD camera which uses .mp4 format files in 720p and when I try to import these into the PowerDirector v8 application it simply shows the progress bar for about 5 minutes with no activity, then states there is an error and closes the whole program down.

Would like to get this working if possible.,. other file formats seems to import with no issues just the ones created on this this device do not.

Any ideas or thoughts??.. do I need to remove the apps and reinstall from scratch??.. I have installed the latest DivX codecs but no change

oh.. I have captured a small sample file about 2.5mb in size if someone want to test to see if the issue is just mine

http://cid-ea53332ab160d6fc.office.live.com/self.aspx/.Public/test%20file%20from%20Flip%20UltraHD%20Camera.MP4

my system is a HP G62 laptop with i3, 3gb RAM, win7 64bit so should be up to the job

Thanks
Martin

Your file imported OK into PD Ultra v2704 running on XP MCE SP3. I'm afraid I can't test with my Win 7 64bit system at the moment.

Cheers

thanks for your time.. it is a weird one I have tried pretty much everything now and have a ticket open with support..I only purchased and installed the upgrade a few days ago specifically for use with this camera so am a little frustrated that it doesn't work

Anyone else got any further ideas I would be most grateful

Martin,

File imported no problem - WinXP Pro SP3 PD8 - 3022. Only thing I can think of is it might be video related. You don't mention the video in your system.

I can't find any information about the DVD Suite Gold you mention.

Hope you find the solution.

Hal

Hi Martin,

I was able to import the test clip into PD8 Ultra Build 2704 on my Windows 7 64-bit PC.

If you search the forum using "mp4" there are a number of similar topics. I know I read one about a Sony Cybershot and it produces a mp4 video file and the user couldn't import. It was finally corrected by the user installing a codec...ffdshow. Maybe you could benefit from installing this or other codec packs. K-Lite is another choice.

http://ffdshow-tryout.sourceforge.net/

But you might find other helpful information in some of the other topics under that search "mp4".

Regards,

Kevin

Hi Martin,

There is something weird with your clip. I downloaded it and went to import it and it did not show up in the import window when "All media Files" was selected in the Files of type. I then changed to "All files" and it showed up.

Then after importing it into the media pane I right clicked inside the file and chose properties and it showed it as a .JPG.

I then opened it up in Media info and it showed it as an MPEG4.

Bottom line there was no sound in the clip when I played it and my thought is are you trying to import the thumbnail.

FOUND THE SOLUTION after looking at the file in my file manager there is a _ at the end of the extension mp4. I removed this _ and the file plays and imports normally.

Cheers

guys majy thanks here are some more details

1 - the file on my system - the mp4 plays on my system in Quicktime with no issues
2 - DVD Suite Gold - this is an OEM bundle upgrade to the HP Installed DVD Suite Deluxe that comes preinstalled laptop - you cannot buy this on its own.. it includes PD8.00.2906, youcam3.0.0.2201, powerdvd8.0.1.1110, power2go6.1.4204, phoyonow1.1.0.6904, mediashow4.1.3419.19233 and a toolbox to manage the apps

the most important item here is PD8.00.2906 for the purposes of this exercise

3 - ffdshow - installed this and no changes

4 - last night I reinstalled using the bunble file pulled down from the Cyberlink download site and agin it installed with no issues or errors

The issue is weird.. it lets me select the files and then it either hands on the browser screen for 5 mins and closes the app or the progress bar appears and never moves with the same result

just check windows error log and found

The program PDR8.exe version 8.0.0.2906 stopped interacting with Windows and was closed. To see if more information about the problem is available, check the problem history in the Action Center control panel.
Process ID: 584
Start Time: 01cb43dd202ba1b5
Termination Time: 85
Application Path: C:\Program Files (x86)\CyberLink\PowerDirector\PDR8.exe
Report Id: 8c1af427-afd0-11df-b3d7-c80aa95483b8

Yhe only thing I see is that is seems to be working on other builds.. anyone using 2906 or should I try to upgrade from the Cyberlink site?

ok.. fix one issue break another

I can import videos and use all the features to edit as expected.. great stuff

however

Now my produce section is broken.. I cannot create any files so have hit another wall

by defaul avi is selected but there are no options to choose quality or other options - if I hit go it immediatly says it has vompleted the task by no file is created
If I select mpeg1,mpeg4,avc again no options are selected and if I hit go the software closes straight away
If I select mov, wmv, mpeg2 the software just closes with an error

I am again stuck.. this part was working fine with non mp4 files before my upgrade but it no broken

Any more ideas?

Hi Martin,

Did you see my post about your video having the extension .mp4_ instead of just .mp4. When I removed the "_" at the end of the extension it works fine in my machine. I just produced a normal .wmv video with your amended video.

Lastly I will say again when I import your video with the "_" at the end and click on properties it shows up in PD as a .jpeg photo.

Cheers

thanks for the response.. not sure where your _ is coming from as none of my source files and not even the one I uploaded to the skydrive has this on the suffix.. very weird that you are finding this

Just to clarify now that my upgrade to 3022 fixed all my import issues.. I can edit videos with no issues but it has broken my produce section so I cannot create the files to export or make dvds with.. this was working in my previous build

This new breakage is not file type dependant.. it wont work even with the sample files provided with pd8 so it is pretty terminal

If it won't work even with the sample files then I would say it would require an uninstall and re-install.

Yes definitely strange with the _ there is also one at the front of the file name as well. I just downloaded it again just to make sure and it is still there when it gets to my computer. Very Strange indeed.....computers who would have one.

Cheers

Martin I am not talking about a uninstall and re-install of your operating system, just PowerDirector. My youtube channel====> http://www.youtube.com/user/relate2?feature=mhsn

no problem.. i got that one.. that is what I am trying now... I was refering to the OE files on the HP image.. of course they don't provide CD;s anymore but an application to reinstall Cyberlink tools from a second partition..

I am just going to remove the software and start again.. will let you know the result

Martin,
Please can you provide Part A from the instruction guide below? I'm concerned you don't have a full version of PD8 Ultra and have applied an update that wasn't meant for the OEM version you had with your PC.

ok here goes

1 - removed all traces of applications from PC and reloaded
2 - reinstalled the HP OE DVD Suite from the recovery tools on the laptop
Here are the details for HP DVD Suite Deluxe

Here are the details for the version of PowerDirector 8 provided here

This is a restricted version of the application that has a lot of features removed (advanced edit and codec are all locked out) - this version has no issues and works with no problems - I can even import the mp4 files and can 'Produce' files in a limited fashion

3 - Cyberlink offer an upgrade for HP DVD Suite Deluxe customers to DVD Suite Gold via this link
http://www.cyberlink.com/stat/oem/hp/CDS_09/enu/dlx-index-ps.jsp?LANGUAGE=ENU&PRODUCTVERSION=7.0&VERSIONTYPE=RETAIL&CHANNEL=OEM&SR=CDS090717-04&VENDORNAME=625&DEVICE=Deluxe

As I have no requirement for BD services as the moment I selected the Gold option and downloaded the file
CyberLink_CDS091218-08.exe

4 - The file is executed and installs the upgrade to the applications with no issues or problems
Version details for DVD Suite Gold

and now the version of PowerProducer 8 is as follows

Now my original issue is gone.. I can import and edit the mp4 files with no problems (if you recall my original problem was that I could not do this)..

however the second I press the 'Produce' tab the application crashes for mp4 files after a pause of a minute or so

Produce seems to work ok with the sample mpg file that is provided in the applciation and all production options are there

Any ideas?... this time things seem a little better as I seem to be able to output some files just not my mp4's from my Flip camera.. also I have not installed the patch from the Cyberlink site so am on the proper versions

I feel I am very close to getting this application working

Hi Martin,

You could always upload a short 5 second sample and see if others can load it up in their version of PD. It is a well reported issue that not all mp4's are the same as produced from various camera models.

Sorry MArtin,

I read so many posts that I lost track that you had provided the sample.

I still had your test mp4 on my desktop. I am able to produce it to any file type on my Windows 7 64 bit system using Power Director 8 Ultra Build 2704.. So it seems that it is possibly isolated on your system or be a specific problem with the Version and build of your limited edition Power Director.

Regards,

Kevin
