PowerDVD 10 won't play anything but PowerDVD 8 was fine.

Hello, I upgraded from PowerDVD 8 Ultra to PowerDVD 10 Ultra Mark II v. 1830. Now PowerDVD will not play any media files (.mpeg, .flv, .avi, .mkv .mp3, etc), DVDs, or BDs. It closes either without error message, or the standard windows message (PowerDVD has encountered a problem and needs to close. Report error to Microsoft?) It had no problem playing any of these files in version 8. I've been testing it with an Avatar Blu-Ray and an Underworld DVD, both US region versions. I've attached the DXdiag.txt file. I'm running Windows XP Pro SP3, on an Asus P5N-E SLI w/ an Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 @ 2.66GHz and 4GB ram. All the latest drivers and upgrades are installed. I also uninstalled the upgrade then installed a trial version of 10 with the same result. Please let me know if you need any more information and if there is a solution to this.

Thanks Michael, I contacted CS on 7-7-2010. They had me try running clCleaner_PDVD9.exe, but it hasn't helped. I'm just trying to explore all options in the time I have before the 30 day refund window closes.

Iam also in the same stage with impossible update. When I update It stops Half way and roll back causing some unradable files and Quality. They are trying to fix it for the last couple of months and still they trying. Wait and see.

Hi Tom,
I have exactly the same problem. I went from v8 (which came with windows 7) where everthing worked to v10 deluxe which won't play blu rays.
The only reason for the upgrade is that I have just bought some 3d headphones and v8 does not support dts.
I have raised a query with Cyberlink "CS000915536" (if cyber link read this) if no joy I'll be after a refund. Surely being sold as the "No 1 movie experience" they should support blu ray. Very unhappy after spending £30 ish pounds.

I read an FAQ which suggest Anti Virus could be an issue, so this was turned off and re-instaled. Same no blu ray.
By the way as it was an upgrade I had to re-install v8. when this was on the pc everthing again fine. so hardware is ok.

Hi Clemrams,

PowerDVD 10 Deluxe does not support BD - please check our website:
http://www.cyberlink.com/products/powerdvd/compare-retail_en_US.html

Only PowerDVD 10 ULTRA does support Blu-ray playback

so what's the solution to my problem?

Can I be refunded for delux so that I can get ultra?

Version 9 is what I need, I thought v10 would include blu ray as this is becoming the standard medium for movie buffs.
