I was told by support that it will not play Dolby Digital sound as is. I have to buy a Dolby Digital pack to play any Dolby Digital DVDs. About every DVD in the last ten to twenty years IS Dolby Digital. Even my VHS were Dolby Digital. Previous versions of Powerdvd would play them but thanks to Cyberlink Penny Pinching, they have bundled nonfunctioning software into thousands of hardware items. Go anywhere else for media players but not this lame duck.

Dear Ron,

you may complain at your Hardware vendor - in OEM business the hardware vendor decides what feature set is needed for his product.

Ron,
Its even worse. PowerDVD9 bundle software is not compatible with Windows7 for readind Blu-Ray discs.
Cyberlink will not admit it (poor ethical standards?).

Hi P,

I am not trying to start a riot or controversy here, just stating the facts as I experience them on my system.

I have Power DVD 9 & 10 installed on my Windows 7 64 bit platform and I have no trouble playing ANY Blu-Ray titles on my system.

I might be missing something in your statement, but I thought I would share with you that it works for me on mine.

Regards,

Kevin

Kevin,
Cyberlink customer support cheched my PC's configuration, I sent shem several times the DxDiag.txt and other details). They sent me several different OEM versions of PowerDVD: 7,8, and 9, including a "vista ready" OEM version of PowerDVD9 (Vista ready does not mean: certified Windows7).
PowerDVD OEM versions are not compatible with LG Blu Ray readers operating under Windows7, OK for CD but Blu-Ray discs cant be read.

Internet chats say that only PowerDVD 10 ultra edition can read Blu-Ray discs on an LG Blu-Ray reader operating under Windows7.

It would have been more honest from Cyberlink customers service to tell me the truth or to propose a working solution, rather than making me waste dozens of hours.

Kevin,
I forgott to mention that LG customer support did not answer my question. They sent me a pre printed message asking me to refer to their internet.

P,
Did you buy the software from CyberLink? (My guess is the answer is no)

Was the software packaged with the drive? (My guess is the answer is yes)

You need to understand that a deal has to be made between the DRIVE manufacturer and the software company who hold patents and technology copyright for themselves and others.

If as you appear to be dissatisfied with an OEM package supplied to you by the drive manufacturer then take your case with them and NOT with CyberLink.

If you want to have FULL functionality of PowerDVD then BUY the full latest product.

Your comments here are unnecessarily directed at CyberLink when they have from your own post appeared to have tried to provide you with optional OEM products. They are not obliged to assist you in your problem as you have not purchased any full version.

Kevin is quite right in pointing matters to you.

Please take on board what I've written. Please stop being such a plonker, you have a cut down version of PD which the drive manufacturer wanted.

Have a great day.

I like how the senior people say blame the vendor. If a vendor is selling a product and want to include my product but dont want to pay full price, how many would mutilate it knowing it is going out with YOUR name on it and knowing customers will come to YOU to fix it and it is YOUR name that will be tarnished, not the vendors? And you feel the customer shouldn't feel cheated because he should automatically know that he could get garbage instead of the quality full featured product he got bundled in the past. And we're talking about powerdvd 8 which is old and allows the customer to upgrade to Powerdvd 10 with all the bells and whistles if he wants to purchase it. Way to support money grubbing over customer commitment. How bout next time, you just tell the vendor no because unsatisfied customers will cost more in the long run.

PS I found my PowerDVD ver 5.0 disc that came bundled with a DVD drive AND does everything i want it to!!! I no longer care about PowerDVD 8.0 or any other version and wont have to spend another dollar on cyberlink!!!!

PPS I'm never going to this site again so don't bother replyin.

I suppose this matter has reached an end and is now concluded. But I will just say for the record that I have a LG Blu-Ray player in my system and the bundled Cyberlink software worked just fine on my Windows 7 64 bit platform and played all my Blu-Ray movies just fine. Never a problem...installed well...played well....no skips...no hitches....just spectacular Blu-Ray playback that exceeded my expectations. I couldn't have asked for more.

I can only share what my experience has been with my system.

Ron,
Your "argument" makes you appear "a shilling short of a pound". You now appear to blame CyberLink for the marketing of a disc drive and the FREE bundled software which you bought with your drive. If you want to upgrade PD to a FULL version, you pay for it, simple isn't it. Support is given to purchasers of FULL products. OEM is a bundled software which includes features or not which the DRIVE MANUFACTURER determined should be included.

Try and grasp the simple facts.

Kevin is correct in all areas and this topic has run its pointless course.

Dafydd

P,

I have had 7 & 9 playback Blu ray back perfectly in W7 32bit and 64bit with no need to resort to compatibility modes, 7 was supplied with my LG Blu ray drive.
