Can anyone confirm if this camera will capture 16:9 on PD8
[Post New]
I can record 720p movies with Lifecam Software, then import to PD7 Limited version. (HP Bundle) OEM
But I cannot seem to capture 16:9 Widescreen in PD7

Can anyone confirm if you can capture HD from a USB Source in PD8.
I also tried this in Sony Vegas Trial. and did not work.

I have to record in Lifecam, then import to edit software...

Any help would be appreciated.. Thanks...

Microsoft Lifecam HD 720p (USB)

Hi William,
You do not 'capture' as such, I do not know how your camera saves files, but the normal method is to just copy the files to your computer, then import in PDR8 and yes you can import 16:9 format

Hi William -

Robert's right. You may be confusing the words "capture" & "import".

That's a Lifecam Cinema. It records up to 1280x720 video. A friend of mine has one & says the quality of recording at 1280x720 isn't as good as at lower settings, though he mainly uses it for Skype chats - so there are other factors at play.

NB. In settings, you need to make sure your resolution is set to one of the 16:9 options, if that's what you want to record. I think the lower settings are 4:3.

Using the software that came with the webcam, you can record sessions and save the video files. These can be imported directly into PD. PD7 & PD8 both import 16:9 video. No problem.

You can also capture through PowerDirector - that will record live and place the capture file into PD's media library.

Cheers - Tony

Yes this is what I want to do, but for some reason in PowerDirector 7 it will not allow me to record in 16:9 only standard. was just wondering if PD8 will allow this USB cam to capture in 16:9, or does it really matter? should I just keep doing the way I am now?

What I want to achieve is record direct to pc in 16:9 wide screen 720p or 1080p.

I understand the importing of HD movies, but
I want to record on the PC/s hard drive in HD if that is possible. Or do you recomend that's not good.

What would you recomend for this type of setup, A certian video camera USB, As I do not have Firewire ports on my i3 laptop.

Thanks for replying, I really appreciate it.

William -

Either way - you get the same resultant video file... except that you say PD isn't capturing for you in 16:9 format.

You can:
(a) Record whatever you want with your webcam (through its own software) > save the file > import it into PD for editing - in this case make sure your camera is set to record at 1280x720.
or
(b) Set up the capture part of PD so your camera can record

I don't know why PD is not capturing in 16:9 (from what you've said) but, if it was me, I'd be going with option (a).

No - you don't need a firewire connection. USB is fine.

This was recorded using method (a) above - obviously not set to record in HD. Different camera - Logitech 9000.
