Hi there, I have been using PD 365 for the last 2 years and mainly acquiring old footages from Camcorders such us 8 mm and hi8 without any problem via FireWire. I have recently updated my pc and Os

(Windows 11 pro) . Now I need to acquire some footages from a Sony digital 8 camcorder through FireWire the way i have always done . However as soon as the acquisition starts, after a couple of frames it suddenly stops . Luckily I still have Windows 10 in another pc partition with Pd 365 in and it works perfectly . Any idea what problem can be ? Pd 365 is updated and all win11 Drivers as well . The digital cam and FireWire are seen by Win11 and as a matter of fact the footage starts but then stops and no way to acquire it. Thank you to any body Who can help .

Hello,

A quick search makes me think many people are finding the same issue with Windows 11:

https://forums.steinberg.net/t/firewire-hardware-windows-11-compatibility/764797

You said yours is recognized, so maybe this thread is not helpful but worth a look:

Also a good idea to contact CyberLink support and see if they have similar reports:

Thank you for your prompt feedback. Unfortunately none of the proposed solutions work. As said, all drivers and softwares are updated. Pd 365 recognizes perfectly the connected digital Camcorder via Firewire. The on-screen commands such as Fast forward and Rewind do work perfectly and the camcorder reacts accordingly. Only, whenever I push Rec or Play, the footage starts and then the image freezes. See picture.
If I use Windows 10 everything works prefectly but I need everytime to restart pc for moving from Win 11 back to Win 10 which I do not use anymore except for this issue. I will continue my research ...

I can find no way to solve my problem. No specific cases (and solution) like mine in my internet research. I have tried to unistall and reinstall the program, stop temporarily all antivirues and pc protections, restart pc, changed firewire port etc but still the problem remains on win 11. I have tried with VLC and it works but the procedure for acquiring from videocam is not as intuitive and performing as PD . This however is a proof that there must be something wrong (a bug or so) in PD with Firewire acquisition. Unfortunately most of the alternative Video Editors that I am more or less familiar with, such as Premiere, Elements, Da Vinci do not have the support for acquisition form Camcorder anymore. For the time being I will have to stick to PD on Win 10 on my other PC partition but this is not what I would like to.

I have used ScenalyzerLive:
https://www.videohelp.com/software/ScenalyzerLive

I don't know, ScenalyzerLive will run in Windows 11. Kameras:
Panasonic DC-GH5, DJI OSMO Pocket II und 3, DJI OSMO Action 2
Programme:
Cyberlink PowerDirector 365, einiges von ProDAD
Hardware:
AMD Ryzen 9 7950X, RAM 64GB, Radeon RX 7900 XTX, BenQ

You could try WinDV and ScenalyzerLive freeware first to do the capturing. It may be that you can’t use PD365 with the latest update based on another post in this forum.

This article points the way to using firewire with win 11: https://www.studio1productions.com/Articles/Firewire-1.htm . This may help: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/how-do-i-activate-my-ieee-1394-port-in-windows-11/d9d42331-61cf-41b4-afc2-a7eab207e472 . You may have already tried the fixes in them.

Thank you all for your kind answers but my purpose is to find a solution with Pd . I do not wish to get involved with other programs as most of my video captures and editings are based on Pd. In the worst scenario I will use it on Win10 but still I wonder if there is no way to get it work in Win11...🤔

Already che checked this out , but it is related to non-recognized FireWire cards. In my case the FireWire card with Drivers, as well as the videocamera, appear in the device manager and Pd software . 🙁
