Audio issue with PD 21 after making a simple cut in timeline

I recently upgraded from PD19 Ultimate to PD21 Ultimate and have a fairly good understanding of the product.
I'm working on my first video using PD21. This is a very simple project wiih one video media file. If I add the video to the timeline and just run it, everything is fine, no issues. Howerver, I then created a 'cut' and changed the scale of the cut to zoom in slightly. Once I did this and run the project, as soon as the timeline gets past the cut the audio starts making a very loud static noise.

At this point the program is useless to me. I can't imagine this being a common issue so I'm thinking it's a setting or something I'm missing.

This is the error log:

Media Source Error Report :

Any thoughts?

From the file location, looks like you did a Render Preview of part of your timeline or PD did it automatically. You should have a green bar over part of the timeline. These proxy and/or preview render cache files appear to periodically cause issues in an edit session for which CL has not resolved in years. They basically trip on their own implemented features and don't correct. In a new PD session, remove these cache files with pref > Media Cache > Manually Delete. After removal see what issues might appear with your project loaded again. My pref, do not enable use of any of these proxy and/or preview render cache files, unless you absolutely must.

Thank you for the information, I'll give it a try.

In your reply you said that you do not enable use of any of the cache files. Is there a way to disable the cache files?

Shadow proxy files are controlled in pref > General > Enable shadow files.....

Preview proxy files can be generated by user doing such thing as using "Render Preview", or automatically by PD if you have a lower end system and/or complex timeline. Often keepinging preview quality in PD to Full HD or HD can prevent creation, I'd never use Ultra HD as it's a real preview bottleneck and will virtually always create a render preview file with potential downstream editing issues. If for some reason you have to render preview a section for editing clarity of the timeline, I wouldn't use the pref > General > Render preview......in Ultra HD. I actually prefer to just select that range and "Produce Range" and preview that finished video. Not convenient for real-time timeline editing but prevents other headaches.

PD's timeline fluidity playback of a complex timeline is pathetic so it appears they wrap all these aides to try and make it palatable, which is fine, however, their implementation often causes editing issues and this limitation never gets resolved as it's difficult to create a precise itemized step by step to replicate, it just happens/corrupts with editing of longer more complex timelines.
