I'm a previous Power Director owner, last owned PD 14. been using Blender for a while, but rather limited in video editing, so I thought I would see how things have improved with Power Director. I edit a lot of webm vids, so seeing that as a newer feature I thought I would give the new Power Director 21 free version a trial usage.

Unfortunately, I've tried importing many webms, and none of the video shows, only the audio works. Is this a limitation of the free version? Does full webm import work correctly in Power Director Ultimate? (That is the version that I would buy, not interested in any subscription service.)

The webm issue is really the one thing keeping me on the fence. If it works then I will buy Power Director 21 Ultimate, otherwise I'll probably just stick with free Blender for now. I definitely prefer Power Director for all the other features, so I'm hoping this crippled version of webm import is just a limitation of the free version.

webm support very limited. You might check the exact format of your webm files with MediaInfo app or online version, https://mediaarea.net/MediaInfoOnline , your webm files probably VP8 video codec. PD21 only supports VP9 video codec and may have audio codec restrictions too. If that's not it, share a sample of your webm files for a closer look.

After checking, most of my webm files are in fact VP8 codec. I guess I'll have to postpone PD purchase for now, hopefully they improve webm support in the future. Appreciate your quick response though, thanks Jeff.

Yes, the VP8 would be the issue. webm support was introduced at PD17 in 2018 with only VP9 support then so don't expect anything too quick, if ever.

You can also convert your VP8 .webm clips to H.264 using a free app like Handbrake or ClipChamp to use with any version of PD
