Audio Out Of Sync

I have an MPEG2 file I ripped from a DVD. The file is simply a copy - not re-encoded - and it plays perfectly. However, the file has a black border all the way around, as does the original DVD.

I can crop the video in PowerDirector 8, and save the result, and the resulting video is exactly what it should be - no border. However, the audio starts in sync, but, by the end of the video, the audio is out of sync by a full second or more.

I've tried saving in different formats. I've tried ripping the original file in different formats - nothing works. Other files I've done come out correctly.

Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Is this a commercial DVD? Some have an encryption method that does that on purpose to stop illegal copies. __________________________________

Yes, it is - a 20 year old movie. I want to back it up on my hard drive, and be able to watch it without using the DVD.

I used another program to rip the main movie as a single file to the hard drive. That program is supposed to remove any copy protection. The resulting file plays fine, and stays in sync. The problem occurs when I use PD to crop the black border.

Your putting members in a precarious sitution with what you are asking. You may not get much assistance for what you are asking by the very nature of what you are doing. Q9300 2.5 GHz

I own the disc legally, and what I do with it is nobody's d***** business by my own, as long as I'm not giving copies away, or selling copies.

I'm sure I'm not the only one doing this, and I do it mostly to learn, and for my own entertainment.

The reason why I made my post is because someone else a few months ago posted a related question either on this forum or the PD7 forum. The post was generally ignored (and perhaps locked) for the reasons I mentioned. Q9300 2.5 GHz

You may own the disc legally, but Pres. Clinton signed a law making illegal to copy a DVD, even for backup purposes otherwise covered by fair use laws. It's also illegal in several other countries. __________________________________
