Are the settings you used to produce the file compatible with your DVD player? MPEG 2 HQ, for example. Will the DVD player read the file system format used to burn the DVD? If you use a file from PD and one from Pinnacle, will either play?

This doesn't sound like it is actually a problem with PD. You just need to find out how to make a file that will be recognized by you player. __________________________________

Hi Julie,

You might want to check the compatibility of your external DVD player. It may not be able to read DVD+R disks.

I have a blu-ray player that will read DVD-R, but not DVD+R.

Re MPEG 2 SP files which I first saved to a folder and then put on a DVD+R with Pinnacle will play in the DVD player but the PowerDirector MPEG 2 SP saved the same way to a folder and then to a DVD+R wil not play and I get a message "unknown disc". I do understand that DVD players differ.
I wonder if it was that I have just used digital photos and motion with PD and not got around to trying do video yet. Even so the few motion pictures I havemade with Pinnacle still play. All puzzling as both a DVD+R and DVD+RW made with Windows DVD Maker,which came with the new PC, both play. I even tried using a CD-R with PD but no joy.
Not to worry. I am enjoying viewing them on the PC for now and thank you for your help.

I think that BradyB is probably right. More and more DVD players will play both + and - DVDs and will sometime even play data DVDs but not all will. Try copying your DVD+R to a -R and see if it will play.

It may be worth trying. As yet, I haven't got any DVD-Rs so will have to get some and see if they work.
