If you burn it to a folder first, you can then use a third party burning software, like Nero or Roxio, to burn it to disc.

If you just produced the movie, then click on the create disc tab and continue. The point here is that if it is already produced into proper format it takes much of the work off of the computer and it can finish burning the disc much faster. __________________________________

Are you just trying to burn the file to a disc? That would be a data disc. PD doesn't do it, but any burning software will very easily. If you are trying to save the produced file, then it is saved when it is produced/ You just need to find it on your computer. If that is not it, then I don't understand what you are trying to do. __________________________________

Sorry if I did not explain myself well. I have tried 2 things.
1. Tried to burn the project directly to the disc. Everything works well until 30% completion, then the counter keeps going for hours, but no progress is made, as it stays at 30%.
2. I first produced the project and I know were the saved file is. Then I wanted to try to burn the produced (rendered) file but I am unsure how to this. I do not know how to get PD to burn from a produced file. When I reload the project then it wants to produce it again to a new file. My question is how can I get it to load the produced file so I can burn it?

Ok, I see. After it is produced, remove everything from the time line. Place the produced file into the time line and add any chapters, if you like. Go to create disc and choose the same format that it was produced to, so if you are using 1920x1080 AVCHD, use that to produce the movie and create the disc. It will probably try to produce the file again, but it should skip the parts that are already in the correct format, so it will go much faster. If not then we have a different problem that we need to find.

I see you suggest to use "2 stage" producing - i.e. first use "Produce", and then "Create Disc". It's a very wise way, if we consider PD bugs, but my question is about RE-rendering:

If I produce MPEG-2 at 1920x1080, for example, with CBR 32000 Kbps, Speed/Quality Indicator = 7 and Stereo Dolby Digital Sound with 384 Kbps, what will happen when I try to "Create Disc" (from that MPEG-2 file, of course) with 1920x1080 options?

I am asking because there is NO WAY to know which parameters PD uses within 1920x1080 options (Blu-ray disc)! CBR or CVBR? 20000 Kbps or 32000 Kbps? Speed/Quality Indicator = 6 or 7 or 3? Which bit rate for audio? 384 or 192, for example?
So, how I can be sure that PD will NOT re-render already produced movie? (SVRT-information indicator shows that video will not re-render, but sound will re-render, for above example. Time used for creation disc indicates the same).

OK, of course I've experimented a lot, and I've read the info from finished movies - seems that, for creating Blu-ray disc, PD uses CVBR with maximum 25000 Kbps, Speed/Quality Indicator = 6, and 256 Kbps for audio. Is there ANY way to change these parameters?

Is there any way to be 100% sure to conform "Produce" and "Create Disc" parameters?

Hi,

To ensure PD8 does not re-render your work either:

1. Use the preset 1920x1080 BD template in 'Produce'

or

2. Perform an SVRT check on your footage on the timeline by going to the directors chair in the top left of the screen and selecting 'View' then 'SVRT Information'

If the bars above your timeline are green or yellow, no video re-encoding will be needed.

To be honest, I'm unsure of the exact settings used in 'Create Disc'. What I would advise is to experiment a bit. Alter the settings in your custom profiles and then perform an SVRT check on the timeline. See what needs re-encoding and what doesn't.

I shoot in 1920x1080 25p at 24mbps with my Canon cameras. I never use 'Produce' as SVRT is compatible with my footage. My workflow is:

1. Edit footage on the timeline and insert chapters;
2. Goto 'Create Disc';
3. Import other PD projects if appropriate;
4. Create a menu;
5. In 'Disc Preferences' select blu-ray -> h.264 -> HD 1920x1080 (24mbps)
6. Burn my project

I recently completed a 4 hour project of my son, with 8 PD projects imported onto the one 50gb blu-ray. The project took 1hr 30mins to burn to blu-ray and the footage I ended up with was as good as the original because of SVRT.

I do own a pocket Sony that shoots in 1440x1080 30p. When using these clips I do use 'Produce' before importing them onto my timeline. I use a custom profile based on the AVCHD 1920x1080 (24mbps) but I select quality 7 with CBR (constant bitrate). I have to select CBR because when using my ATi 5770 card with GPU acceleration, if CVBR is selected I often end up with a clip with a bitrate well below the 24mbps it should be. This never occurs with my custom profile with CBR selected, I get the clip to have a bitrate of around 24mbps as it should be.

Once the project goes into 'Create Disc' for my final production, all my clips have matching resolutions and bitrates and the project authors quickly thanks to SVRT.

We have learnt that for SVRT to work correctly the following option should be ticked. Goto the directors chair at the top left of the screen and select edit-> preferences -> produce and make sure the 'allow SVRT...' option is ticked. Ignore the warning message.

I tried to open the project with the produced file but that does not work. I produced the entire movie and I know were the file is saved, it is a M2TS file. I tried to load it with PowerDirector, but when I am looking for the file in edit mode it only looks for *psd files. I am obviously still doing something wrong.

On another note, once I have burned a movie to file, can I use PowerDirector to burn it from the burned fiel onto the Blue Ray Disc, or should I use another program? (I have the Suite). If it is possible to to burn onto disc with PowerDirector, how do I do that exactly.

But you can use ANY burning software, including "Blu-ray Disc Suite". Just "copy" all subdirectories from directory where you put your movie (By default, it is a "My Video" directory) to the Blu-ray disc (in your case you have to burn "BDMV" and "CERTIFICATE" directories to Blu-ray disc).

How do I save the original files on the Blue Ray Disc? Do I create a "My Documents" directory and burn them into there?

I had in mind default NAME for directory - "My Video", no matter where it resides.
Anyway, you have to burn all files and directories from "C:\HD DVD Write\My Video" to blu-ray disc. That's all.

I let the computer burn to file overnight but I do not think that it finished properly. It hang up at some stage and I have no idea how far it got along. Last time I checked it was runnig at 52%.

I checked the folder in the my video directory and have to directories:
BDMV and CERTIFICATE. BDMV has 8 subdirctories but only STREAM has any files in them, the others are all empty. The CERTIFICATE directory has a BACKUP subdirectory which is also empty.

How can I test to see if this is actually going to play when burned to a disc. It does not seem like it worked correctyly.
