I'll say straight away there's not much point in trying to help me -- I just give up. I've been wrestling with PowerDirector on-off for years and every time I come back to it, I can't even get started on a project because of some absurd issue.

In this case, the fact that you can set the framerate to '30', but then can't place a 30 FPS clip on the timeline because the actual framerate on the timeline is 29.97 is just unreal. (Yes, I've tried ignoring the message -- the clip is jerky or just goes green). I've looked through the explanations in past forum posts and can just about follow the twisted logic of it, but I'm sorry, it beggars belief that anyone accepts or ever accepted this as a feature of any piece of software. It should never have been released without some kind of feature that automatically smooths over minor framerate differences. Hell, no one should have to even think about framerate until they're at the stage of exporting the video project.

I give up. Trying to make videos shouldn't make you feel like someone is deliberately trying to drive you insane.
Quote Actually I see there do seem to be a couple of updates for your Logitech C922 webcam. You may want to install and test these before responding, especially if that's one of the devices that PD is having trouble with.

Currently, Windows is using a generic driver for that device and the newer, specific one may make a difference.

Hi Optodata - thanks very much for your help.

I went back to PowerDirector to get screenshots and now find I can't reproduce the problem at all - I'm not sure what has changed, but everything is back to working as I expect it to.

I did download a patch earlier, so I can only assume that that's what's fixed it - except that the problems initially seemed to continue after I had already installed the patch. Perhaps it just needed a couple of restarts.

In any case, the issue seems to be solved and I'm immensely relieved it wasn't because of the new PC being not up to snuff. Thanks again!
Thank you for the swift response, and apologies for not putting that information up.

Hi,

I'm just coming back to Power Director 13 after a long break. I used it for a while on an HP Pavilion laptop with no problems, dropping in videos from a camcorder, camera, clips from YouTube and so on. I stopped using it because I found that after a while I started having problems with the output - videos with errors in them. I figured my laptop was getting old and its memory overloaded, so I put PD13 away for a while.

I've just bought a brand new laptop - a Lenovo Ideapad. It's nowhere near top of the range, but it outperforms the old HP in every area. The processor is an Intel Corei5-7200, 2.5Ghz. with 8GB of RAM and a terrabyte of hard drive space.

I've transferred my old PD13 copy onto this laptop, and I'm straight away getting errors I would associate with memory problems. Videos from various sources - my Elgato video capture device, my Logitech webcam and the Windows in-built video editor - all end up turning green or scrambling, or turning into a stuttering mess, when I drag and drop them into the editing area. If I preview them outside of this area, they play fine, but PD doesn't seem to want to combine them or edit them in any way.

This mess is then transferred to the final video produced - or worse, the whole thing comes out green, with only the sound working.

This is even the case if I capture a video using PD13 itself - I take the video, it plays back comfortably, then goes messy when I drag it into the editing area.

I can't think of any reason why this should happen now, with a new PC, when it was all so intuitive using a creaky old HP. Any help appreciated.

EDIT:

Shoot - I forgot to add that I tried using the EasyEditor with the same video segments, and it seemed to work fine.
