How to get rid of Upgrade notice?

I have PowerDirector Ultra 8.0.2220 and every time I run it, I get a small dialog sliding up from bottom right offering to "upgrade" Powerdirector for $15.00 off. This is quite annoying, since I've already purchased and registered it.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled (and reregistered it also.

Running on Windows 7 Ultimate

The only way you can do it is to isolate PD from the internet either through your firewall or registry hack. The only problem then is you will have to manually check to see if there are any updates and if you use the built in youtube up loader it won't work. Copy & paste of instructions to Remove Ad/Upgrade Prompt

In Windows XP:
1. Locate the file - Windows XP Home c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
2. Open "hosts" in Notepad
3. Add host name at bottom of text, beneath 127.0.0.1 localhost - the text to add is 127.0.0.1 liveupdate.cyberlink.com
4. Save file and restart.

In Vista & Win 7:

1. Browse to Start -> All Programs -> Accessories
2. Right click "Notepad" and select "Run as administrator"
3. Click "Continue" on the UAC prompt
4. Click File -> Open
5. Browse to "C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc"
6. Change the file filter drop down box from "Text Documents (*.txt)" to "All Files (*.*)"
7. Select "hosts" and click "Open"
8. Add host name at bottom of text, beneath 127.0.0.1 localhost - the text to add is 127.0.0.1 liveupdate.cyberlink.com
9. Close Notepad. Save when prompted.

Cheers - Tony

Thanks for the 2 tips. I should have mentioned that I did search for this before posting, but I searched for "upgrade notice", which didn't return any results.

The "hosts" file change, of course, would mean I couldn't check for updates at all that way.

Your responses leads me to believe that Cyberlink probably knows about the issue.

I hope they actually issue fixes more often than once "every four months or so" as another poster mentioned (as an opinion from past performance). It still crashes quite frequently for us when editing, producing, etc.

Hi All

Go to your internet/antivirus software eg Norton/McAfee and add PDR8.exe. to the 'banned' list.

Works for me. Haven't had an ad or silly pop up since.
