Chapters and Main Page Trouble

Hi,

I've also posted a message where to find a complete manual for PD7, instead of the help manual in PD.

When I burn my project to DVD, the menus do not work. I feel sure I am doing everything right in "Create Disc", but maybe I am missing something!

I am trying to put a "Highlight Icon" (an arrow) next to "Play" and "Chapters" buttons on the "Main Page". It shows up in preview mode but not on the DVD. Also the "Highlight Icon" will not show up on the "Chapters Page" on the DVD.

I have even selected a specific font style, color and added extra "Titles" and "Buttons" and arranged them with no problems.

One last thing that might be causing my problem.....When I select a menu style, there is always a chapter picture with each chapter. I do not want a picture, so I just put a black background in place of the picture and I am also using a black screen. I am trying to put six Chapter names from top to bottom, as they are long and overlap each other if I line them up from left to right. Can I do this or not?

Finally.....Is there a way to create the Chapters without hiding the preview picture (turning it black)? I just need 6 chapter names, per page, from top to bottom (no pictures). Some of these names are long, such as, "John tells about his dad blind Mike".

Need much help.........Thanks..........John Windows 7 64-bit 8 GB RAM, x64

If you want a simple text-based menu, try this one from the DirectorZone.

http://directorzone.cyberlink.com/detail/5485

It has a chapter menu page which just lists 6 clickable chapter headings.

You will note that there is a preview window on the Main menu page, showing the first part of your movie. There seems to be no way to get rid of this but it can be disguised so that it doesn’t show on your screen.

Similarly your first Chapter menu page, listing Chapters 1 to 6, will show a window displaying your video from the first chapter. The second Chapter menu page (if you have more than six chapters) will list Chapters 7 to 12 and the window will display the video from Chapter 7. And so on for the remainder of your Chapters pages. Again you can’t get rid of these windows but you can disguise them.

In Edit mode, insert a black colour board at the front of your movie, and another one after each five chapters of your video, then create your chapters so that the colour boards become chapters 1, 7, 13 etc. The colour boards should be as short as possible – it seems that 2 seconds is the minimum workable duration in this situation.

Now go to Create Disc. Make sure that “Enable video thumbnails” is unchecked, then the window on the Main Menu page will just show the first chapter, i.e. the black colour board (which will disappear into the black background). Similarly the windows on the Chapters Menu pages will show the other colour boards.

You should now have a menu system which is just clickable text – six chapters - on a black background. But Chapters 1, 7, 13, etc, when clicked, will bring up the relevant colour board. You can get rid of these by editing the text on the Chapters menu pages.

Make sure the Author tab is clicked. Go to the first Chapters Menu page and double-click on “Chapter 1” and replace the existing text with a space. Double-click on “Chapter 2” and replace it with “Chapter 1”. Similarly replace Chapters 3, 4, 5 and 6 with 2, 3 4 and 5. Your menu page should now list five chapters. Repeat for your remaining chapter menu pages. Note that the chapter numbers on your menu will not agree with the chapter numbers on your timeline (your Menu Chapter 1 will be Chapter 2 on your timeline).

You will probably want to change the “My Video” to something more meaningful as well. And since your chapter titles are long, you may need to slide them to the left of your screen.

Note that the place where the original “Chapter 1” heading was will still be clickable (at least where the “C” was – now the space). To avoid accidentally clicking on that, you could slide it out of the way, e.g. to the top or bottom or one corner of the screen.

Note also that clicking on a chapter will play that chapter, and then the next chapter(s) will play automatically to the end of the video. There is no way that you can select a chapter, play it, and return to the menu.

If you choose to play the whole video you will of course get the 2-second sections of black between each set of five scenes.

Hope that helps

Robert

HALLELUJAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Got my problem solved. I now have the "Menu" and "Chapters" with highlighted icons. It was as simple as downloading a template from online.

Thanks everyone,
