PowerDirector 5 - aspect ratio 16:9 - not on the created video-DVD

I bought recently PD5 because in the specifications for this product it is said that it is possible to produce video films in the 16:9 aspect (wide screen).

I found out that with aspect settings (16:9) in the profile (menu Edit , Aspect Ratio) it is possible to produce films (files see tab "Produce") with the correct aspect, but when I create a DVD (see Tab Create Disc) the produced disc is always with the 4:3 aspect.

I find this is somewhere misleading the customer because of the not-correct specifications. Or doing I something wrong, or how can I obtain 16:9 aspect when creating the DVD-disk?

I too had a problem I never resolved. All my editing and titles, etc. were in widescreen. The dvd then played in 16:9 on my computer, but 4:3 on my widescreen flat tv. I just never figured it out. Are there only 2 people who have problems with wrong aspects with created video-DVD's? (Created DVD always in 4:3 aspect)

Who can create 16:9 video-DVD's?

Hi Rolandx,

The answer is "I can".

I'm using PowerDirector 5 Premium build version 2112. Look in Help/About and let me know what build version of PDr5P you are using. IMPORTANT

On the quick test I carried out to check your concerns and Barry's it went as follows.
1. Camera which recorded the 16:9 footage
2. Mpeg 16:9 footaged captured (earlier) and placed in Time-Line
3. Create option
4. Opt to write to Directory
5. Opt not to have moving Menu
6. DVD in Folder produced
7. Additional files added to DVD for storage
8. Disc burned using Power2Go 5.5
9. Disc played in Standalone/TV in correct format 16:9

No probs.

The version is (see Help menu, About... button) is 5.00.2112.

For information:
- I installed the updated version (coming from PD3)
- On my system I have also PowerProducer 2 Gold

I followed the procedure as explained, created with the "create" disc the files on the harddisc in a directory.
The aspect in the VOB files are always in 4:3 aspect.

I did not receive a solution from Support after more than 1 month. Is this normal?

Solved my DVD aspect ratio issue using PD8 with Windows 7 - Results & Settings for my project = "Preview" in "burn" panel displayed correctly. DVD produced by PD8 had all still images on project heavily cropped. All titles on title track were also heavily cropped even though I used "TV Safe Zone". Preferences aspect ratio set 16:9, Image "Stretch Mode"set to letterbox. When I used PD8 to "burn" to a folder and then used Windows to burn the DVD from that folder, all images displayed as expected. So in my view, there is an issue with the "BURN" feature of PD8.

Hi bazzabrizzy

I too have had this happen.

I found if you close out of your project and restart your computer everythings OK.

Funnily enough the best workaround, for me, was to 'Burn to Folder' then use Nero to burn to disc.

I have no idea why this occurs - P.S. Happened occassionally in PD7 too.

Happing editing

Best Regards

Neil
