A. Windows 10

PD14 Ultra 14.0.2302.0 SR (VDE151023-03)

AVG AntiVirus FREE v. 2016.0.7294

Where is the readme file located?

B. I was able to ‘Save All Information’, but the ‘Run 64-but DxDiag’ box wasn’t there as it’s shown in your information guide, nor could I do a Run “64BIT DXDIAG”

C. I am having issues rendering a video. Some formats produce videos without audio, and others would produce audio but no video, and some work perfectly. The video and audio work just fine in the editing mode (both Movie and Clip). For the purposes of being able to provide as much information as possible, I ran a few tests on the different formats. So instead of rendering my 30min long movie every time, I created a short 30 second clip that uses a stock .jpg image and .wmv video, as well as a .mov iphone video and a .mp3 song. I am not sure which format renders the best quality, but I am giving it to a friend that owns a Mac, so I figured QuickTime was the best way to go and most likely compatible with his already-installed software, please correct me if this is an incorrect assumption. I tested the videos in QuickTime 7.7.8 (1680.95.71), Windows Media Player and the Windows 10 default “Movies and TVs” players. When rendering the video in…

1. QuickTime format the video looks fine, but there is no audio. These are the QuickTime formats that I tested (Full HD 1920x1080/30p (attached), Full HD 1920x1080/24p, HD 1280x720/24p, and 160 x 90/30p).

2. Windows Media Player format rendered videos look and sound fine (WMV 9 FullHD 1920x1080/30p and WMV 9 320x240/30p).

3. H.265 HEVC MP4 there is no video, but the audio comes out just fine. This format was only tested in Windows Media Player, I received an error when trying to play in QuickTime. Formats tested were MPEG-4 1920x1080/30p, MPEG-4 1280x720/24p, and MPEG-4 640 x 480/30p.

4. XAVC S MP4 the video and audio come out just fine. Formats tested XAVC S 3840 X 2160/30 and XAVC S 1920 x1080/30p.

E. Let me know if any screen captures would help.

J. I ran the MediaInfo on the QuickTime Full HD 1920x1080/30p file.

Thank you,

Perry

Hi Perry. Welcome to the forum, and I must tell you how impressed I am with all the thoughtful details you've provided! You definitely get an A+ in Posting 101

In answer to your questions:

  1. I'm not sure what "readme" file you're referring to. Is it possibly the *Read me* sticky thread?

  2. In Win10, the DxDiag tool is 64-bit if you have a 64-bit machine and 32-bit otherwise

  3. Lots of info here, so we'll leave the list format

No need to send Mac users MOV files only these days. They can open and play MP4 and other formats and I'm surprised that you didn't try producing to AVC MPEG-4, which is probably the most common format. Not every system will be able to play XAVC-S or HEVC clips due to the need for newer hardware and drivers.

The MediaInfo details for your uploaded clip clearly show that there's no audio present, so that's certainly something we need to understand. It helps that you used some of the sample clips that come with PD, and certainly the kite surfing clip should have sound even if there was a problem with the "new baby" clip.

This is especially puzzling because you clearly have the newest QT version installed. Is there any chance that you had unchecked the "enable Track1 Audio" box when you had produced those clips?

I'd like to have you double-check that and also try producing to the H.264 AVC 1920x1080/30p (16Mbps) format. If either or both of those work, then you're probably OK. If neither one works, try producing again with the hardware encoding disabled (or enabled, whichever is the opposite of what you've been doing).

If things still aren't right, the next step would be to uninstall PD14 and then reinstall and patch it. That alone may resolve the issues.

Unfortunately your system has experienced many serious errors with WindowsUpdate (as seen in the final 100 lines of your DxDiag results), and that points to some significant issues deep down inside Win10.

Many people on the forum with those kinds of errors aren't able to get PD to run correctly at all, and in the long run it would be a good idea to use the Reset this PC tool to get everything straightened out "under the hood." At this point, I'm not suggesting that you need to do that, but it's something to be aware of in case we can't get these problems resolved. If/when you decide to do that, you can search the forum for other posts from me regarding that tool to see what's involved. It's actually very simple and shouldn't take more than 5-10 minutes.

Meanwhile, lets see what the easier steps and suggestions turn up!

Optodata, first, thank you very much for both the compliment and the timely response.

A. You are right. When I read the posting guidelines, it mentioned reading the PD14 Read Me file, I assume they meant a read me file that came with the software.

B. Copy, on the 64-bit DxDiag.

C. I just tried the AVC MP4 1920x1080/30p (16Mbps) on both the test video and my actual video, and it produced perfectly. So I will stick with that format, still curious why I am having problems with the other formats.

Everything was “enabled” and I think the fact the audio works in the other formats proves that as well.

You mentioned the serious errors with Windows Updates and the ‘Reset this PC’, is that something you would recommend that I do after I finish this project?

Again, thank you very much for your help!

I'm wondering if some issue don't exist with the QuickTime profiles on some PC's, in your case I think if you simple create a custom profile and change the audio to LPCM you may recover the audio track during playback.

Perry, I'm glad that the other profile worked for you.

One option is to just stick with that option and not worry about anything else. Another option is to try Jeff's advice and see if changing the audio profile on one or more of the QT profiles can get the audio to show up properly. Whichever way you want to go is fine, and we'll certainly be here if you need any more assistance.

As for using the Reset this PC tool, I do think it will fix those underlying problems and will give you a more stable system going forward. Since you're able to edit and produce with PD, there's no urgency to do that right now and it would be easy to do whenever you have some free time.
