AMD Hardware Encoding

Hi – New user here trying to determine how to get hardware acceleration for encode for PD14 on my system.

Briefly I have:

  • Windows 10 -64 bit

  • PD Version: 14.0.2302.0

  • GFx Card: AMD Radeon HD 6900 Memory Size 2048 MB

  • Current Drivers: Catalyst 15.7.1 AKA: Driver Packaging Version 15.30.1025-151117a-296582E

When editing I have never seen the options for hardware encoding be un-greyed out. PD works fine otherwise.

Looking around on the forums, it seems that drivers are dodgy and my potential options are:

Rollback the AMD driver to 14.12 or V14.4- Seems like folks have been hit or miss on this solution. Does this work to enable HW encode on the HD 6000 series? Will it work under windows 10?

Get some additional Drivers: On the Cyberlink site they recommend to download “AMD Media Codec Package” - Though this doesn’t exist any longer on the AMD site, and some forums posters seem to indicate either that it is included with more recent drivers (and thus this advice is out of date). Some sites seem to have these files, but I’d prefer to not have to download from an unknown site. Anyone know the truth?

Buy a more recent graphics card: Like the GTX960, which seems to pop up in discussions as a good price/performance. Is there are good list of good cards for PD?

Other options not listed? Something elst to try?

Thanks, Rob

The 14.xx CCC package and it's driver should work on win 10 provided that you uninstal your present AMD graphics drivers first and rebooted. You can then install the older AMD drivers. If you are into gaming then you might just switch over to use the intel integrated graphics and then hardware encoding will be available in PD14.

Had expected Cyberlink to annouce all this as they did with the nvidia drivers for older cards in the FAQ.

Thanks. This gave me the drive to find and install the 14.12 drivers, which were not easy to find. The encoding works now. For others, legacy AMD catalyst drivers are posted here:
