Super annoying bug, marker keeps skipping ahead 10minutes.

I just upgraded to 13 from 12 and I installed the latest patch but I'm still getting this horrible bug. When I play the material I am editing it will play for about 3 seconds and then the marker skips ahead roughly ten minutes causing the picture to freeze, the audio keeps going. It's wasting a lot of time pulling the market back the whole time, is this a problem with a solution? Is is it because my project was started in 12 and I'm trying to finish it in 13? Any help would be really appreciated.

Hi George

This is usually a problem caused by high resolutions and bit rates. Could you post a screenshot of one of the problem clip's properties.

Highlight clip - right click - view properties

Any chance of some more info, members can then maybe assist you.
1. A diagnostic file
2. A screenshot of the Edit workspace with your project insitu - full screen/full res.
3. The data in the About popup.
4. MediaInfo on the video being edited.

The diagnostic will reveal the capabilities and such of your PC. The screenshot - gives us an insight into what you're looking at and how you're editing. The version data is important to. The MediaInfo is data on the video being edited.

See Part A, B, E, F and J in the guide. http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/40225.page

This isn't a "bug", more likely to do with your GPU, your video and your selections in my view. The info you give will help us, help you.

Dafydd

Edit - Ha, I see Shadowman has answered. I have had the file open for 45 minutes ha ha

I hope these images are the sort of thing you were looking for, sorry I'm just not entirely sure :/

I can tell you that the file I'm working with is game footage, and a voice track recorded seperartely.
another thing that might be relevant when I put the game footage into the project it tells me the frame rates don't match up, even when I set the properties to 60 it says that the project is only at 59.4 or something like that, close but not 60. I had that in PD12 though and didn't have this skipping problem.

reading your guid now too, will make sure I get the relevant pieces.

Sorry for the delay in replying I fell asleep, thanks very much for the help though!

I think these are the other things you asked for. the diagnostic file and the details on the file I'm editing, game footage recorded from an Elgato.

Hi George

This is just my opinion, but your processor is only dual core with 2 threads. For this sort of work I think you should be looking at 4 cores and 8 threads.

So I would say you need more processing power.

Somebody else may think differently. Panny TM10, GH2, GH4,

I agree with Dafydd and The Shadowman that your CPU is going to have trouble doing video editing. See this chart for a *comparison*

If you can't upgrade your system right away, probabaly the best thing you can do is to turn on shadow files and let your computer create low-res versions of your clips which will make editing them much faster. PD will still use the full-res original clips when you produce, so this is the best way of speeding up your editing experience.

I hope this helps!

Hi optodata

I think George is already using shadow files. Take a look at the very first screenshot Panny TM10, GH2, GH4,

Yep, I missed the little green tags embarassed It looks like the main clip isn't converted though. I think it's best to wait until every single library clip has a green tage before you start editing. I've heard it may take quite a long time to create shadow files for big clips, and trying to edit while the shadow files are being creating leads to this exact problem.

Another option might be to use PD or a 3rd-party app to convert the existing clips to a lower bite rate and see if there's still enough detail to be useful. Any reduction in bitrate would speed up the editing process, and that's about the only other thing I can think of that might help.

EDITED to change the main thrust of my first paragraph!

Good spot, optodata.

I'm usually pretty quick on picking up on unprocessed shadow files, but I completely missed the yellow flag.

This, then, is most likely the cause of some of the problem, notwithstanding what has been said previously in this thread.

George, read up on shadow files and then have a read of this thread for a good alternative. http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/43102.page
See and study the post by ynotfish. Whatever you do, you must wait until all your clips have a green flag BEFORE you start to edit

Your troubles wont go away, but it will help you until you can get upgraded

Thanks very much for the help, guys. I'll get reading. Little disappointed if it is lack of computing power as my pc is new and was told it should be fit for purpose. But I will look into upgrading. Again thanks very much for taking the time to help

George, let PD run long enough for the yellow tag on your main clip in the library to turn green. That way you'll have the best editing experience.

Your CPU isn't really that weak, but it's just not going to be a good fit for video editing. Since it's a new system, maybe you could trade it in for a more powerful one, or see if you could upgrade to a more powerful CPU. The rest of your system specs look good!
