Custom output video size 720 x 404

Hello. I am working on a project where the source video is 720 x 404 (avi files). I cannot find any kind of output preset with these dimensions and using the closest I can find (720 x 480) doesn't produce a nice result. Is it possible to set a custom output in any format?

Thanks in advance.

ETA: I have tried creating a new wmv profile per instructions on youtube. I can see the new file in the enu folder, however it doesn't show up in the dropdown when I actually try to produce a video. I have restarted both the program and the computer. I have also tried the 'run as administrator' fix. I can open the program as admin, but then how do I open a prx file? If I just double click the file itself, it opens however there is then no option to run as admin. Blargh.

720x404 is 16x9. If you set the project first as 16x9 and produce it as 16x9 then do you think everything is okay? I would think that a flag would be set as 16x9 on the video. It would display properly.

It is 16x9 however, there is no choice anywhere for 720x404 as a file output size.

720x480 will display as 16:9 if set to Widescreen.

I understand about 16:9 and my project is set for that. My issue is, my source video is 720x404 and I want to output the project at that same resolution. It's not a choice in any of the profile presets (avi, mpeg, mp4 etc). I understand I can make a custom wmv profile, and I followed the instructions from links on this forum to youtube. I made the profiles (in the enu folder) and I can see them in the folder, but they don't show up as a choice when I try to PRODUCE the project.

Hopefully that helps make my question clearer.

TIA

(PS...I can process it at 720x480 but I get a black band on the top/bottom edges which I don't want)

Hi Cindy -

You shouldn't be getting black bars if you produce to 720x480, as Carl & tomasc have advised... unless there are some non-square pixels involved.

There are two profiles in the attached zip file. They're 720x404 WMVs. If you put them in C:\Program Files\CyberLink\PowerDirector12\Language\Enu\Profiles, you'll find the profile listed in your WMV options.

I named them "Cindy 720x404" - easy to locate.

Even though there aren't standard options available for 720x404 in MPEG-4 etc, you can modify the Profile.ini to make a profile that matches your needs. Personally, I'd be doing that rather than using WMV.

yup, I, too prefer .MP4 container.
modifying the profile.ini is little bit complicated.
you can follow ynotfish's way or my example...

1. create a custom profile that'll be modified using the notepad. my example cindy5230.
my example is for modifying both the 720x404 resolution and higher bitrate.
2. close the PD12.
3. go to user's AppData- Roaming- CyberLink- PowerDirector- 12.0- Profile.ini
4. modify the bitrates and video height
5. save and close the notepad.
6. open the PD12.
7. go to Produce and choose Custom profile cindy5230
8. render.
Voila I want 720x404 or else.mp4

Excellent instructions PepsiMan -

I'm sure you'll appreciate the humour of the attached screenshot, given that this thread is about producing using custom profiles.

Yes - I appreciate that the cause is in the screen capture software you used. Just looks funny

Anyway Cindy - editing the Profile.ini, as described above, will give you a far better result than producing to WMV.

Cheers - Tony

Thank you both, ynotfish and PepsiMan. I would much rather not use wmv, but that is the only solution I could find. I will definitely try the profile.ini mod first. Wish me luck!

PS.. PepsiMan, 'want 720x404 or else' cracked me up.

ETA: Update: that worked perfectly, PepsiMan. Thanks again!!

Help!!

I used these instructions today on my work computer and it worked perfectly. Now I am trying to do the same on my laptop, however when I open the Profile.ini file, it is not the custom profile I created. I have gone through the steps several times but each time I open this file, it looks like (screencap attached) this instead of the custom Cindy5230 profile I created.

well, you did created a custom profile called Cindy5230. it's just that it's all stuck together.
so you have to follow the yellow brick road.
yours begins at...

&&&
<Class>MPEG-4 AVC
<Name>Cindy5230
<Description>
720x404
<Output FileName>
<DescID>11924
<NameID>11925
<Group>2
<File Format Class>11
<Video Format Class>8
<Audio Format Class>10
<Stream Flag>3
<Field Order>0
<Attribute>40083
<Video BitRate>6000000 <- change this if you want higher bitrate ex. 17Mb/sec then 17000000
<Min BitRate>3000000 <- change this to half of new bitrate ex. 17Mb/sec / 2 = 8500000
<Max BitRate>6500000 <- change this to +500000 to new bitrate ex. 17.5Mb/sec = 17500000
<Video Quality>0
<Video Width>720
<Video Height>480 <- change this to 404, you're done. save the profile.ini
<Frame Rate>29.969999
<Profile Level>65380
<Pattern>IBPBPBPBPBPBPBPBPBPBPBPBPBPBP
<Pre Processing>0
<Resize>1
<Flip Video>0
<Speed Quality Indicator>6
<Interlacing>0
<Encoder Mode>0
<App Type>2
<Dynamic GOP>0
<Deblock>1
<EntryMode>1
<Encoder Type>32
<Audio Layer>2
<Audio Mode>2
<Audio BitRate>128000
<Audio Channels>2
<Audio SamplesPerSec>1
<Audio BitsPerSample>1
<Misc>0
<SamplesPerFrame>0
&&

looking at your profile.ini
you've created 'Custom Profile -2' and 'Cindy5230'.

you can delete the 'Custom Profile -2' with -(minus) sign. minus is the delete key.
at the Produce, choose 'Custom Profile -2' then press '-'

just follow the yellow brick road very carefully, you'll be alright.

Okay, that is weird, because I purposely went and deleted all the other custom profiles except Cindy5230 after the first time I tried.

Can/should? I delete all of the stuff prior to the &&& in the profile.ini file?

yes, you can just delete the profile.ini file all together...

user's AppData- Roaming- CyberLink- PowerDirector- 12.0- Profile.ini

and start over.
PD12 will create a new profile.ini file.

you are very welcome.

Thanks for the patience replies. They are much appreciated!!

In the meantime, I changed only the portion I wanted, and it worked a treat to process my video. Now I'll try deleting the unnecessary stuff.

Cheers!
