Since the Downloader is always the same, I assume the update is smart and downloads what is neceesary depending on my current configuration and build…

Well, I tried the downloader from the regular CyberLink Update web page to run it first. It updated PowerDirector to the latest alpha version. Then I ran the downloader from the previous beta version link. It updated PowerDirector to this last build. End of experiment. Uncertainty remains…

Hi Jirka.Bolech,
Go to: C:\ProgramData\CyberLink\Downloader and delete the ini files, then run the downloader and see if that works ok. Let me know.

Hi Dafydd,

Thanks for your advice and offer but I'd rather understand the mechanism than just get things right. For example, my PowerDirector says it's build 2326 now but I never installed build 2319. Is that okay? Are all the files updated appropriately? In principle, are the updates (or patches) incremental or cumulative?

The provided "downloader" downloads the proper beta on my computer. Not sure but I think they are different downloaders, with the same name, for each file.
Personally I think is stupid, I am deleting always the downloader after I get the files.
After that I use 7zip to decompress the installation files in a location that I need (not in C drive, that's a SSD). CL uses 7zip too in their files, I don't know if they pay anything to the creator of software.

Those extracted files have a "setup.exe" that I run.

Updates seem to overwrite the changed files, so IMO you can apply directly the last one.

I see now that although the downloaders are of identical sizes, they are not identical files. I may have run the wrong downloader when I wanted to update to build 2319 before 2326…
