I used the AV cord that came with the analog camcorder which did connect both stereo audio with red and white as well as video with yellow. The fact that I can playback the raw captured file on PowerDVD and hear the sound indicates (to me, at least) that the transfer went through from the analog camcorder through the DV camcorder pass-through into the IE1394 input into my computer. And when I took a small clip of the captured file in PD and rendered it into a new video, that video played back on PowerDVD with the sound as well. The only place where I can't hear any sound is in PD itself.
As far as my kludged system of starting a tape in the DV camcorder and then switching to analog- that was the only way I could get PD to do the capture. It evidently didn't recognize the analog camcorder at all. Pressing the start button in PD always started playback of the DV camcorder. If there was no tape in the DV camcorder, PD wouldn't start recording. The system did appear to work. I only mentioned it because it might be involved in the problem I am having with the sound.
