Hi all,

I downloaded Director Suite 3 last night (I have a Live subscription). I haven't had time to run tests but looking in the 'Create Disc' module, in blu-ray -> h.264 there is the option to burn in 1920x1080 50p. There is a warning that not all hardware will play the discs but that is for each individual to check. The PS3/4 and 2011 onwards Sony blu-ray players certainly work.

Cheers,

I downloaded Power Director 13 for testing.
Attached please find PDF file showing the results I found as follows:
Picture 1 New option to burn in 1920x1080 50p.
Picture 2 Properties of the 1080P Produced file.
Picture 3 1080P Create Disc.
Picture 4 1080P Create Disc Warning.
Picture 5 shows that the output file from Create Disc is re-encoded from 24.760Mbps(Produce file)
to 15.303Mbps on Blu-ray structure which degrades the original quality.

My test agrees. The output is 1920x1080 50p BUT the bitrate has been dropped to around 16mbps. The original footage is around the 28mbps mark and this explains why SVRT doesn't work.

So we need someone to figure out how to hack this Create Disc profile to allow the bitrate to remain the same as the original footage.

I'm beyond disappointed.

Andrew

Hi Andrew,
Your disappointment and the confirmation of dhnj observation/test has been passed onto CyberLink for them to deal with. Sorry, no hack from me.

Thank you! I've contacted 'jmone' to have a look.

I've never heard of a camera that shoots in 1920x1080 50p with a bitrate of 16mbps. As far as I'm aware it's all at 28mbps.

Once again, thanks Dafydd (aka Master)

Hi Andrew,
If you want to know where some of the Profiles are (they may not be what you're after), then look in the Registry/Regedit.exe
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/CYBERLINK/PowerDirector 13/AuthorPage/Profile
Find the tweak/Hack and you may get it right/wrong...

I'm sure Andrew will be careful but I have to put a warning here for other members.

WARNING:
Altering and playing around in the registry is NOT for the inexperienced.

Dafydd

I modified the PD12 hack for PD13, but the bitrate sticks at 16mbps

I wish we could tinker with the Create Disc profiles as easy as we can with the Produce profiles.

Thanks Dafydd,

It is great to see the inclusion of the 50p template but as others have mentioned it is also odd that the bitrate is so low. I should be able to have a play this weekend and see what can be done.
Thanks

This is far as I've got in hacking the profiles in the registry. It seems the order of the Keys is important (including the order they are created not just the Name order)....

I've attached two files that modify this part of the registry "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\CyberLink\PowerDirector13\AuthorPage\Profile\BDMVProfileMP4AC3]":
- TestHBR: On my rig the "HD 1920x1080/50p" option now puts out a higher bit rate main movie in 50p but the intro is in 23.976p. Note: at this stage I've only been modifying the 2Ch DD profile (so you need to use this one). It also makes changes to other profiles.
- OriginalMP4AC3: The original registry settings.

Let me know how it works for you, but now the option is in the Drop Down box it should be a simple change from Cyberlink to output these files at the correct bit rate.

Thanks
Nathan

Other options. CLink have relaxed the AVCHD Disk Option a little (not enough IMO). If you select this instead of Bluray disk you can:

1) If your project is under 8.5GB, then select DVD-8.5GB & the HD 1920x1080/50p profile then In "Burn" then select "Create a Folder" and you will get a full bitrate NTFS compatible (long file name) structure that you can then burn to a Disk using a third party program like ImgBurn

2) If your project is over 8.5GB then you will need to use a SD Card (etc) bigger than you project. You can select a HD 1920 x 1080/50p (28 Mbps) profile but it will burn it with a FAT file structure (8.3 File Names) but it will be full bit rate. You will then need to burn to a Disk using a third party program like ImgBurn

Both options produce great looking video at full bitrate and 50p (or 60p) for both the main video and also the menus.

Thanks

Dafydd, While you are bothering CL, it would be great if under AVCHD Disc option if we could select BD as well as DVD, SD Card etc....

Hi Nathan,

The bitrate has now risen to just under 24mbps using the new hack so a big improvement!

Thanks Dafydd,

Ultimately I would like PD just to leave the bitrate 'as is' to enable SVRT to kick in and leave the final output blu-ray as good as possible.

While Nathan's hack(s) have been of huge benefit, SVRT does not work with them which implies some re-encoding is going on.

Cheers,

The profiles under the AVCHD Disk option (instead of BD) look pretty good to me as they are, have you tried them?

You can always use this simple technique I discussed ages ago and still works in PD13. The burn process, since PD9, can be a two part process if “Burn to disc” and “Create a folder” are both used. This will produce the warning note shown in the pic AVCHD_large. Doing this, PD13 will finish the “Create a folder” phase and then error on the “Burn to disc” phase. I simply use a spare dvd+rw 4.7GB disc so I waste no discs as it errors on the burn anyhow. The error msg will depend on media being used. What one has after the failed burn is a valid AVCHD Folder in the location specified.

You can then burn the folder to BD with just windows, ImgBurn, or your favorite utility. Resulting video for 1920x1080/60p is just over 25Mbps for the video. Keep in mind, this will require a AVCHD 2.0 compatible player, which the PS3 mentioned earlier is not.
