Hi everyone,

Anyone using PowerDirector 12 with a dual AMD Crossfire setup? I've been running a few tests with mine (see spec below). The minute I load PD12, the secondary GPU fires up to 99% while the primary GPU stays idle. I've been monitoring the cards in Catalyst Control Center in the 'Overdrive' section.

Cheers,

I am also seeing this, but the temp isnt going up on the card like a GPU running at a 100%. Does Power Director 12 Ultra utilize both GPU's in crossfire?

The temp in my card goes up to about 65. It doesn't appear that PD12 does support crossfire, which I find strange because crossfire has been around a while.

One for R&D maybe.

I updated to the latest beta software from AMD, Catalyst 14.7. The secondary GPU now remains idle, rather than firing up to 99%.

In terms of workload, it appears that PD only uses the primary GPU rather than the two GPUs together when rendering.

Hi,

I have spoken with Dafydd about this.

However, crossfire IS supported with PowerDVD 14.

He's asked them about it anyway.

Cheers,

Andrew

IF PD ever supported Crossfire, I would definitely buy another matching HD7870! Anything that speeds up rendering, I'm all for it. ; Intel i7 4770k, 16GB, GTX1060 3GB, Two 240GB SSD, 4TB HD, Sony HDR-TD20V 3D camcorder, Sony SLT-A65VK for still images, Windows 10 Pro, 64bit

I didn't think to check compatibility with PD before buying the card because crossfire is not exactly a new thing!

I've emailed AMD about it through their driver feedback form. PowerDVD is listed as one of the applications they test but PowerDirector is not. AMD create crossfire profiles for each application so it may just be a case of them testing PD12 and implementing a profile.

Hi Andrew,
R&D at CyberLink are aware that CrossFire doesn't function for PDR12. In a test, ATI's encoder would not use the second GPU with GraphEdit, a Microsoft DirectShow SDK tool for Windows.

Keep asking ATI about this matter. Currently PDR12 cant handle how the card uses the GPU under current implementation.

The information above has been drawn from a reply given by CyberLink and a search for GraphEdit.

I have asked a follow up question for Nvidia Dual SLI card set ups.

Thanks Dafydd,

Have CL provided AMD with a copy of PD12 to test?

Cheers,

Hi all,

After realising that Crossfire didn't function with PD12 or other applications I use, I returned one of the GPUs, sold the other and got the Radeon 290X instead.

I think I was a bit naive thinking Crossfire would just work with everything!

Lesson learnt!
