Key frames and masks
[Post New]
I have tried to make a mask follow a bird in a video, but only the last position was saved.

Is changing a mask position not possible, using key-frames?

Perhaps this video will help. It is for a previous version but it should work for PD12.

Just to add, PD12 has a specific line for movement, see image

Thank you for trying to answer my question.

The above video gave me the idea of moving a mask. It is showing other methods of high-lightning stuff.

In the picture, you are moving a jpeg-picture. Moving a Jpeg workes fine for me. This is not the same as a mask, but it gave me another idea.

If I create a picture as a .png file and used the alpha-channel to make the middle part of that picture transparent and the rest "green", I could perhaps use chroma-key to create the effect, that I want. (Edit) By moving the .png "frame" above my film.(End Edit)

I can create as many key-frames for a mask as I like, but the mask is not moving. Only one setting apply for the hole scene.

Motion masking is not a feature of PDR12. Look to the next version, it might be included.

If you can change the colour of a t-shirt in colourDirector, it must be using something very close to motion-masking. afaik.

Hi ALODK -

Back in PD8 (?) the same sort of question was raised. You're right about what CDR does with motion tracking masks, but that doesn't apply in PD12.

This post is probably on the same track as your thinking... http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/25918.page#141064

Thanks for all the answers and links. I will rest my case for now.

I am still waiting for my new PC to arrive. It is a powerful one compared to the one I am using now and I hope to run Video and other editing tools on that one and leave the internet and other stuff on the older PC's.

I will install Cyberlink Director Suite 2 on that one. Then I can test and try more stuff.

Still, it is nice to communicate with people who understand what I am saying.

Hi Anders -

There is a different possibility for what you're trying to do. Some of the effects, like the Blur tutorial Steve mentioned, apply a mask that can be keyframed (size, position etc.) so that it tracks motion. Well - it doesn't "track" except by the keyframes you set.

I've attached an example using (a) the focus effect & (b) the magnifier effect - those may suit your needs.

Cheers - Tony
