Hi, I am a novice with video editing and I need your help.
Could you please tell me how to merge 2 or more .pds files (PowerDiirector 7 video projects) in one project all together?

Also when I retrieve pds files previously edited with Magic Movie Wizard they are always without sound.

Hi Inica,

You cannot merge two or more .pds files to create one file pds but.....

You could merge the two lots of files used by opening one and then open the other pds - PD will ask if you want to merge the data. You can then save that as a pds.

What you should try to do, is to complete each project, then produce as a file and save. When all your projects are completed, then you can import all your saved files to create one new project.

Regards

Robert

Inica,
Althought you can't simply combine two pds files you can however:
1) produce pds file1
2) produce pds file2
3) create a new pds file and add the produced files from pds file1 and pds file2 to the time line
4) produce or burn this new project and you have the effect of pds file1 and pds file2 combined.

Hi Inica,

I've had the same issue as you. I tried the copy and paste from one PDS to another but found I could only copy the contents of one track at a time which is very limiting (as a side note unless I'm missing something here, this is my biggest gripe with PowerDirector, since copying and pasting sections of all tracks is a useful facility).

Anyway, I realised that the PDS files are just XML files and since I'm a developer and understand XML I've tried developing a little tool today which allows you to take two PDS files and append them together.

Let me know if you'd like a copy to see if it works for you!

All these methods are ok and appreciated but not a solution if you want to keep your previously defined chapters intact. One of the PDS files will become one piece

I found a solution, which takes only a few minutes - depending on your project size. I use powerdirector 7, which came preloaded on my computer. I made two different projects and wanted to merge them. To do this, I opened up one of the projects, right clicked and selected all, right clicked and then copied (or ctrl-c). Then, I went to "file", open and opened up the other project I created earlier. Moved the selection tool to the end of the other psd video track and and pasted. Save, and repeat this for each of the tracks. For a 10 minute video, it took me 5 minutes or so. Make sure you allow it to merge the files the first time you open the project that you'll be using as your final.
