PD12.exe has stopped working when saving menus

Hi,
I've noticed a lot of threads with "PD12.exe has stopped working", but my issue is different than any I've seen on the forum.

PD12 opens fine, I can edit the entire video with no problems. Titles, chapters, all the effects work fine. I then go to "Create Disc" and the "Menu Preferences" tab, click on a menu thumbnail and click "Modify". Up until this point everything works fine. I only need to make the slightest change in "Menu Designer", click "Save", name my menu, click "Ok" and in about 5 seconds I get the message, "PD12.exe has stopped working" and PD12 closes.

I haven't noticed any other issues, so far, except when saving a menu.

Ah ha! I've just noticed while typing this message that this problem only happens when saving changes to a menu template that was downloaded from the Director Zone. The menu templates are:

http://directorzone.cyberlink.com/detail/153239
http://directorzone.cyberlink.com/detail/124375458

These are templates with no motion thumbnails in the Titles/Chapters menu. I just need a menu with no motion thumbnails. Just highlighted text.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

I am getting so discusted with PD12. I have had nothing but problems with it since I've installed. I get one issue fixed and the next comes up. I am just trying to create a simpe menu with highlighted text and no thumbnail, in the title/chapters page. Every template that came with PD12 has those rediculous rectangle thumbnails with the menu. I'm am trying to make videos of our bluegrass band and every thumbnail looks the same when you're videoing a band on stage.
I have downloaded quite a few menu templates from Directorzone but they just keep giving me the same message "PDR12 has stopped working". I'm about ready to throw my computer out the window. I've spent 2 days just trying to make a menu.

Can someone please help me. If I could just edit any of the templates that I've downloaded.

I have reported this error too. The KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid) menus (which are exactly what I am looking for) will cause PD12 to crash if you try to modify and save them. Actually if you load it and then try to save it without modifying anything will cause a crash.

Further, even if I take KISS 14 and generate a DVD, the play text stays on the screen (slightly grayed out) while the main content plays. Also the DVD started about 14 minutes into the first track. .... argh !!!

For the most part, I like the editing section of the program ... but it is really annoying that from the menu designer you can't add a chapter button that is text only. OR I can't find a way to add the chapter thumbnails as (the only) static image to the chapter select either. Maybe I'm over-looking something simple, but posts from other people on other forums suggest this is an oversight from the developers who are more interested in show off their cool effects than generating a solid, flexible interface.

I know what you mean Tiberius Nero. I have also tried modifying these KISS menus and like you have said, I didn't not change a thing. I just clicked "Save As" and typed a name and saved and PD12 crashed. If you understand what I'm saying.....I have found these motion thumbnails very useful for my home videos, as you can get an idea of what that scene is about, click on it and there it is. Very useful, but when I'm editing my bluegrass band, every thumbnail looks the same. Just us standing there on stage. You can only tell what the song is by the name. No need for the thumbnail. I don't understand why PD don't have a button to click that says "Text Only" or "No Thumbnail" and the thing would just remove the thumbnail.
I don't know what to do as I can't modify the type of menu I need.

Thanks for sharing your problems with me. Makes me know I'm not alone on this issue.

Well, I've had no luck at all with the menu designer.

I'm starting from scratch with the "Create Menu" button, and the menu designer opens up. I tried to make various minor changes, such as adding a background picture to the basic starting point, and PDR12 crashed. This happened at various points, so I decided to cut things down to the bare minimum.

I simply tried to save the default contents as a menu, and boom!

I tried the exact same thing again, making no changes to what Menu Designer started with, and now it's said "Saving template 100%" for about ten minutes.

I don't know why, but the menu designer is useless to me at the moment.

The menu problem is also discussed under "Menu Highlight With No Thumbnail".

Several of us are experiencing an inability to save menus and even worse have discovered that after repeated tries the save might work, but the DVD will crash a standard DVD player. By crash I mean lock it up so that you have to unplug it from the wall to recover.

Other tools have shown that the menus are incorrectly constructed. In one discussion thread I reported you could run VobBlanker on the files to see the menu errors ... but that posting has been removed.
