Output to WMV 640x480?

Hello,
I am wanting to output my videos to wmv 640x480 (same as my source videos).

There seems to be no option to output at this resolution in powerdirector (there is as a divx, but not wmv). Every other video editing package lets you do this.

Am I missing something or should I just accept it's not available?

-Thanks in advance

It would take me two minutes to make you a WMV profile and an installation exe to place the data into PD for you to use.

I need some info to create the files you want.

1. NTSC or PAL?
2. Video size = 640 x 480
3. Video bit rate - 400, 600 800, 1000+ What?
4. Do you want high audio quality or what?
5. What PD are you using?

What's the purpose of the video? If it's to stream then say.

You could always locate the *.prx files and create your own wmv profiles if you feel able.

Wow, I really wasnt expecting it to be possible.

The video source files are 640x480, NTSC (30fps) with a bitrate of 1024. The quality of these is perfect for me.

The videos are from a microscope camera

The video files are for a website which has a lot of video content- for each video, there will be a choice of streaming low and medium quality videos, but this one will be the non-streaming (downloadable), high quality option.

If its possible to make 640x480 vids suitable for streaming, that would be nice too, but I'm realistic.

As for the .prx files- uinless its simple text editing, probably not for me.

Thanks for your help, it's appreciated.

-Michael.

Hi Michael,

I need to know what build of PD you are using. PD5 and PD6 store the wmv templates in different locations.

Let me know what version please.

It's do- able - give me the extra info asap.

I'll create 4 versions - NTSC and PAL. I will also make you a streaming version as well - lower res but still good for a broad band connection 512 download.

Hi,

I've created the templates for you.

http://seemyworldonvideo.com/pages/extras.html

You will need to join before you can download - the website is set up for PowerDirector video editors.

Scroll to the bottom of the page - they're easy enough to find - look for:
640x480 wmv templates - Michael

They'll auto-install into PD6. If you have an earlier version of PD say... it's just a minor change to where they're install to.

I've named the templates:
SeeMyWorldOnVideo - Michael - Stream
SeeMyWorldOnVideo - Michael - 1024kbps

The 1024 is the video bitrate - I also gave it 48 audio bitrate/stereo.

Let me know how you get on.

Dafydd:

Thanks from me also for the new templates you created. They work perfectly, and do a great job making a high quality output with a reasonably small file size.

I too ran into the same WMV hurdle. That is, surprised that there were almost 30 WMV "Produce" options, but none of those provided a resolution anywhere between 320x240 and 1280x720.

Hi,

Good to know they're appreciated.

I can easily create others.

I made a short video on how one lot of templates were created if you're interested.

Cheers Dafydd. And nice tutorial video too.

Also, turns out I didn't have the Windows Media Profile Editor installed. For anyone who searches and finds this thread having the same problem, you'll want that utility to make the profile edits to .prx files. You can download the Windows Media Encoder from Microsoft which includes the Profile Editor utility.

Then after installing, you should find the Profile Editor here:
Start > Windows Media > Utilities > Windows Media Profile Editor

Then import the .prx you want to modify (making a copy first) and you're off to the races.

If you don't have that, you can still open and edit the .prx files in a plain text editor as they appear to be XML or something similar. Not sure I'd chance that though not knowing all of the tags and domain values.

Hi,

I used to put all that information out a few years ago for those that wanted to make their own prx files - wmv templates, along with a batch of other templates. I stopped because of the move to FLV streaming (HD included) negates the need to use a wmv template created video file. Today I use the wmv I create with my templates mainly to supply clients with specific video for their websites and as email attachments. I used to have wmv streaming video online and that's easy for many to set up - just need the html script for a website.

Before I forget, thank you for the helpful info.... a good link to those that don't have the free program install.

One last thing - the route to install a Deutsch scripted prx file will differ in PD7 Deutsch language from that shown in the video.

Dafydd
