Issues recognizing audio in MP3 encoded video.

I have been recording game footage with screen capture software and I chose the MP3 codec for audio encoding. Now when I play the video in VLC or WMP they pick up the audio fine. When I import the video into PD11 it does not include audio in the preview or when I put it on the timeline. It's simply not there. It is fine with the AAC codec but I need to get this video done for a deadline. I didn't think MP3 would be an issue. Any ideas? Thanks.

PD has a great deal of issues with MP3 audio, it might be best to convert to WAV, or capture in another format. HP Envy Phoenix/4thGen i7-4770(4@3.4GHz~turbo>3.9)
Nvidia GTX 960(4GB)/16GB DDR3/
Canon Vixia HV30/HF-M40/HF-M41/HF-G20/Olympus E-PL5.
Tape capture using 6 VCR, TBC-1000, Elite BVP4+, Sony D8 camcorder with TBC.

As you know MP3 is highly compressed and can at times create problems ranging from out of sync issues in the preview and in a produced file. Audio dropouts and sound quality can also be observed on the timeline. The problems with importing mp3 encoded files can be found with many other video editors as well.

If you found that the AAC codec worked for you I would stay with what works. Depending on what you are recording your game footage with, you may investigate other choices available.

The only chance you might have with using your original footage that has the mp3, would be to import the video clip into the Media Library, then once imported into the Library, right-click on it and select "Extract Audio" from the pop up menu. This will then extract the audio in the video clip and convert it into a wav audio file, which is placed as a separate clip in the Media Library.

Then place your video clip on the timeline and mute it. Then place the extracted wave audio file from the Media Room and place it on the audio track in the timeline. So you are now using this as the audio source.

Try this and see if it works for you.

Good Luck!

Thanks for your reply guys. I shall be using AAC from now on. I also tried it in premier and was having the same issue as Kevin stated.

I do indeed now need to go down the route of converting the audio to another format which doesn't seem to be easy.

I tried your method previously of extracting the audio from with in PD's media library but it won't work due to it being MP3 and an error pops up.

I guess I just need to extract the audio externally through software which can accept it...

You might get lucky and run it through something like Format Factory and encode it with similar resolution and Bitrate to maintain decent quality to a video file. Pick a file type that works for you. It's free. Just google it.

Just a question because I have no idea.

When you capture gameplay. Were you using Fraps or some other capture software?

And when you set up the audio portion of your capture settings, was it in stereo, two channels? Or something else? I am not really sure if using the mp3 audio would allow anything but 2 channels. I think I have read in the forum before of Power Director choking on a 7.1, 8 channel video capture using Fraps. I could be mistaken.

Just trying to learn since many people capture gameplay and edit the footage using Power Director.

Thanks,

Kevin

The software I use is called 'Open Broadcaster Software'. It's really user friendly and my games run well with it. I personally prefer it to Fraps or Bandicam. It's also popular with gamers who stream live on game streaming sites such as twitch as it allows you to connect directly to their servers through this software. Though I just use it to record and save to my computer for editing.

Yes I just use stereo for the audio settings.

I'll give Format Factory a try. Thanks for your suggestion.

Thank you very much for your feedback!

I hope you get the original captures sorted out so you can use them without having to start over.

Happy Gaming!!
