Downloader continues to crash

After consulting members of this forum with regards to some missing features on CLPD8, I've decided to look into CLPD11, first by checking the trial version.
So I visited the website, obtained and ran the Cyberlink Downloader for CLPD11.

However, the downloader freezes and crashes after a few minutes (the download process does not begin), and I get a Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Error.

This seems to be a common issue with Cyberlink software and I'm surprised that it hasn't been resolved yet after so many new releases since the issue was initially discovered.

I've tried re-downloading the downloader but nothing changed. Is there a way around this?

Generally a run time error is a windows error due to a .dll file or some other file not responding the way windows is expecting it to act. Does it give you any more info other than "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Error"? Keeping widows updated helps...

Is your computer PD8 vintage?

Cyberlinks servers are notoriously slow as molasses and even just disappear for a few seconds or so. which can also cause problems..

All I can tell you is to keep trying. Have you tried downloading another software trial from CL (a small one) just to see if it will download?

A google search will give you lots of information on runtime errors and possible reasons and fix.

Hi TwilightSun -

Bubba's suggestion about registry errors is correct. For some reason (don't ask me), CL's downloaders seem to expose these errors.

Recently there was a similar problem reported - http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/24849.page - where the user was unable to download & install the software. The thread was locked after it deteriorated into derogatory personal nonsense & spurious suggestions.

JackletPro's problem is now fixed after following this procedure...

1. Download fresh copies of the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable Packages (assuming you're running a 64-bit system)
2005:
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=18471
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=5638
2008:
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=2092
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=5582
2010:
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=14632
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8328

2. Uninstall EVERY Microsoft Visual C++ program & update through the control panel

3. Give you PC a registry clean with http://www.piriform.com/CCLEANER

4. Reinstall each of the Microsoft Visual C++ packages (above) beginning with the 2005 & through to 2010

5. Attempt to download the trial of Director Suite again.

Turns out my comprehension of the written word isn't lacking at all!

I hope this helps.

Cheers - Tony

Hello ynotfish, Bubba in TX

I sincerely apologize for the laaaate response. Had my laptop crash after posting this thread and wasn't able to log back in to my account having lost the password etc until now. I finally have my laptop back up and running so will try the procedures suggested and report back on my results.

I was able to install the Trial for CLPD10 without removing the Complete version of CLPD8 I have installed on this computer, so I am hoping that I will be able to run both software at the same time, but I suppose we shall see.

After I made my above response, I found that when I downloaded the latest version of PD on the 6th I had the same problem. The CL downloader would give me a run time error on open attempt, on my desktop. So I then used the laptop to go into my desk top and run the loader. It ran fine on the laptop. I downloaded the update files to my desktop CL location. And called it good.

The next day I tried the CL downloader again that would not run the day before before I deleted it. It ran fine. Go figure... __________________________________________

Well, the problem I'm having at the moment is that I can get the downloader to start up (run) but it gives me this BS about how I have no permission to save in the "Cyberlink" folder (located in C drive, under Program Files), where I was able to save previous versions of CLPD without any issues (and I am able to save other installer files to the same folder without issues).

So I give in and save it to My Documents as the installer suggests me to. Installer is running now and installing as we speak. The installer also ran the very first time I downloaded it and hit run and was doing fine until about 70%, where it stopped responding.

I guess we'll just have to see.

I haven't done any of the steps ynotfish suggested regarding the Microsoft Visual C+ etc so not sure why it's running now, go figure.

Just succeeded in completing the installation process from start to finish without a single problem. I am running the trial version of CLPD11 as we speak (on the same computer as the one before). The settings haven't been altered since the time I started this thread so I still don't know what the issue was, but oh well.

If I choose to upgrade to the full version down the line, will I be able to update it directly from the trial version of would I need to go through complicated steps as with CLPD10?
