I have sent this to Cyberlink via their crash module.

I am finding that whenever I apply an effect to the time line I get a PD11 crash, program closes down and requests to send report to CL.

I have found that if I untick in Hardware Acceleration the 'enable OpenCL' this problem does not occur again, this problem may only be for nVidia cards I do get a flash before the crash advising 'low system memory' as I have 12Gb I doubt this!

Hopes this helps and save a bit of time, took me half a day to find out the work around

Same thing for me.

I have 16 Gb memory, Nvidia card too.

One of my friends, with PD11 and Nvidia card too, doesn't have the problem.

The soft I installed was DirectorSuite, and my friend PD11 only. Jean-Paul

Hi David and Bhajje,

Thank you for the observation and your work-around David. Please can you provide a snapshot of the Edit Workspace? I'm looking for the Effect position prior to the crash.

Report sent to CL with workaround info.

Check with your friend see if he has the openCL checked in hardware acceleration.

David: Yes, the OpenCL option is cheked for my friend. Did you install PD11 as stand alone, or via the Directorsuite, as I did?

Dafydd: Difficult to make a snapshot of the edit workspace with the effect position , because PD11 closes as soon as the effect is droped to the timeline....

Dafydd as Bhajje points out program closes as soon as effect hit the time line regardless of being dragged and dropped or right click placement.

Bhajje my PD11 was a full program upgrade single program only with content

Hi David,
I was after the position/placement, where on the track you're putting the effect. If you indent it to a second clip and not place it at the beginning/first clip is it OK?

Dafydd

I have experimented with all the ways, first trying to place the effect in the effects track at the beginning of the time line.

Place the effect at a random point on the time line.

Place the effect at the beginning, middle and end of a clip on the time line.

Place the effect on a total empty time line

In all the above cases the program closes instantly, occasionally very quickly I see a dialogue saying Low System Memory, I have 12Gb of memory.

Now I can turn off hardware acceleration for OpenCL, place an effect and then turn OpenCL back on this will cause the program to close.

I can turn off the effect time line place an effect then turn the time line back on for an instant close.

I have tried this with about 7 different effects.

The Hardware acceleration OpenCL makes specific reference to effects so it's not a loss not to have it and I certainly see no system slow down by having it off, I also note that nVidia has released recently different OpenCL versions, this maybe why the incompatibility. Windows 7 X64 SP1

Thanks David and Jean-Paul for the follow up. All information is appreciated. The Boomerang reports need additional info. I have raised your findings with CL.

No crashing here, with or without HA options checked.

Nvidia GTX 260, running 301 driver - tested with both HA options on & off - adding multiple effects to clips at any point. Can't induce a crash.

Tested a number of effects from PD & NewBlue Art, Essentials, Motion & Paint.

So - not Nvidia wide - might be particular cards?

Cheers - Tony

My card is a GTX 580, it crashes.

Somebody else owns a GTX 560 and it's OK

And a third person owns a GTX 460, and it crashes too.

All three with same driver version.

GTX260! can you really edit with that? bit like a model 'T' being pulled over for speeding, possible but highly unlikely

Perhaps a track.....

My friend with the GTX 560 (he was OK for the effects on PD11) had the very bad idea, to install last version of Nvidia driver (306.23-with whom PD11 is all the time rendering). Before that he had 301.42.

So he came back to 301.42. And now he is very happy to be in the same situation as we are David and Me.

David, did you too install the 306.23, before coming back to the 301.42? Jean-Paul

Yeehhhaaaa... It works now for me.

What I did:

I re-installed Nvidia driver 301.42, with the following actions:

I checked Advanced installation, and on the following Panel, I checked "Proceed to a new installation".

We made this on two computers (the one of my friend , and mine), and all is good now.
