We have several using dual monitors, when they see your post they should jump in... sometimes it takes a while for people to wake up as we are all over the world.... the trial does not have all the features as the pay for version. I do not know if that would be an issue... but getting the trial first was a good idea on your part...

Thanks for letting me know.

Sometimes companies do monitor their customer forums. I was not aware that Cyberlink did not.

As a software engineer I know that bugs often are specific to certain configurations. It would appear it is one of these cases. I haven't found any workaround except disabling one monitor. If I run with just the 30" all seems to be fine.

It looks like there is no money back guarantee on the software, so I can't purchase it and try to get the bug fixed - if Cyberlink doesn't fix it I would not have any right to a refund apparently.

I will try to raise a defect and see if they look at it.

Hi,
I have run dual monitor set ups for years specifically for video editing. Most programs will open in the left monitor but when shifted to the right and closed will return to that location. PD does not. Video Editing is resource hungry and I can understand the need to maintain full use of graphic card resources by remaining on the dominant monitor and returning to the left monitor.

I don't know what you're editing in the trial version and that would be useful to know. I tried to replicate your issue using SD and then HD. The dual set up has a 1GB card. SD footage - no problems at all. HD footage - yep that would have display issues - does on either monitor if the resolution is set to HD. Best to drop it to a lower res in Preview.

As to what I am editing :

I have a project I created with PD9 . There are 2 HD video tracks from 2 different camcorders, one JVC and one Canon, both at the highest bit rate, 24 Mbit.
But the video is very short, only about one minute.

The project is very simple - it just alternates the clips 3-4 times using keyframe opacity.
What I see when I move the PD10 to the second screen is that it hangs.

Task manager shows that the process PDHanumanSvr.exe is consuming 28-32% of the CPU and did not let go for several minutes (>5). It just went to 0% CPU when I was typing this post.

PDR10.exe is at 0% CPU.

Right now, PD10 is hung and not repainting. My only option is to kill it from task manager.

A simple newly created project with just one HD track and no keyframe did not show this problem - I could move PD10 between monitors with no issues.

I will try to recreate the project in PD10 from scratch with 2 tracks, as opposed to opening the one I saved with PD9, and see if I can reproduce.

I was able to reproduce the issue with a new project.
1. create new project
2. drag two MTS files to the edit room . These are each approximately 300MB .
3. insert first MTS file on video track 1
4. insert second MTS file on video track 2
5. double click title bar to "unmaximize" it
6. drag PD10 to second screen
7. double click title bar to maximize PD10
8. click "play"
9. Observe hang

I attempted to replicate the issue. I used Sony mts files shot at 50 fps.
1 @ 1.97gb
1 @ 1.91 gb
I edited both, split and crossed over etc. Other than being an enjoyable wedding video of my daughter and a violinist playing Calon Lân, I had no problems playing on either monitor.

Not sure what the difference is with your system and mine.
I just uninstalled PD9 and reinstalled PD10 for the nth time.
And it still hangs for me.

Actually it hung at step 7 above.
I didn't even get as far as ever clicking play.
As I write this, PDHanumanSvr.exe is consuming 28-32% CPU.

I just had to kill PD10 from task manager again.
Tried again with a single clip, and it happened again when maximizing PD10 on the second monitor.

It is definitely specific to some video clips.

No problem when I do this when I add the nature.mpg that comes with PD.

No problem when add one MTS file from my JVC camcorder.

But the problem happens 100% of the time with all the video clips from my Canon HG21.

I even turned off GPU hardware decoding, problem is still there. Doesn't look to be driver specific.

I have attached a very short clip that should demonstrate the problem.

Very simple steps.

1. create new project
2. drag clip to edit room
3. insert clip to video track 1
4. double click title bar to reduce PD window size
5. drag PD window to second screen
6. double click title bar to maximize
7. press play

Sometimes I can just it to happen at step 6.
If it doesn't happen right away, just repeat steps 6 and 7 a few times. Never fails to hang here.

Ok, I have not had a problem. I played the clip in two tracks and I went from the Preview Normal setting to Full HD. No stall or anything in the second monitor.
1. You're using a Trial still?
2. My Monitors are identical - one thing I always maintain is same monitor set ups for my dual systems.
3. Check the resolution settings, mine are set to 1680 x 1050
4. Refresh rate 60Hz and
5. Colour depth: Highest(32bit)
3 to 5, same for both monitors.

Not a lot of help for you.

My settings are very basic and not OTT, but I don't have display problems I can only suggest some experimentation with display settings in the Nvidia control panel.

1. yes, still trial
2. I have two different monitors . One is 24" 1920x1200, the other 30" 2560x1600 .

The second monitor can only run at 2560x1600 resolution, no other resolution is possible as it has no scaler and runs with dual-link DVI only, the only type of connection available on it.

The first monitor cannot run at 2560x1600 ...

So I cannot match the resolutions between the two monitors.

3. they are both at 60 Hz
4. 32 bit color for both

I may try with the motherboard built-in ATI card.
It is capable of running the one monitor with VGA analog (not sure if 1920x1200 will work for that tho) and second monitor at 2560x1600 digital.

OK, well, that's unfortunate
I don't really want to purchase it because I am essentially unable to use the program with this bug.
I have also found that rendering times are about 20% slower on my system vs PD9 . This is contrary to Cyberlink's claims of performance improvements
It must have been compiled/optimized for a different CPU than the AMD Phenom II x6 .

FYI, on my Intel P35 system, GA-P35-DS3R motherboard, with an old Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4 Ghz CPU, 16GB DDR2, all is fine, with the same nVidia 9800GT video card, and the same 2 monitors (first one attached through KVM, second has multiple DVI in).

Unfortunately, the hang persists on my second system, the AMD Phenom II x6 1055T based machine
I even set that one up with the first 24" 1920x1200 monitor on the nVidia GPU, and the second 30" 2560x1600 on the built-in AMD HD4290 GPU from the motherboard. It made no difference. PD10 always hangs on the 30".

Could it be an issue with PD10 and AMD CPUs / chipsets ?

Forgot to mention that PD9 is fine on both systems with both monitors, never hangs.

I finally realized it's possible to have PD9 and PD10 side-by-side without constant uninstalls/reinstalls so it's much faster for me to test now

One bug I did notice : on the AMD system, with PD9 starting on the card controlled by the nVidia card, and "hardware decoding" enabled, once I move it to the second monitor controlled by the AMD card, the video preview window is green. PD9 probably doesn't realize that the AMD GPU cannot do hardware decode (or maybe does it in a different way). If I turn off hardware decoding, then it can play the video fine on both monitors. Realistically, I will not be running with nVidia+AMD GPU, I just did that for testing purpose - I only want to use the faster nVidia. But I thought I would mention this other bug still.
