Magic Music has fewer files in PD10

There seem to be many fewer files in PD10's Magic Music than in PD9. For instance, in Bach Guitar, Boulevard Blues, Julie's Place, among other "categories," PD9 had at least 6 files each. Now in PD 10 there's only one. Why did this happen? I've downloaded all four files (Ultra, 2 "contents" and one romance) but still have only few music files.

In both PD9 and PD10, Bach Guitar has the same number of clips (on my system-see attached).

Smartsound files are stored in a common location and should not be different. There is a SMARTSOUND update available on the smartsound.com site to 5.1.8.0..is that the version you are running? Did you try to rebuild the database?

I'm running SmartSound 5.1.8.0. I've rebuilt the database. In the smartsound folder, there are files for clear vision, feature presentation, future presentation, global vibes, introspective, julie's place, pavande run down, super logo, wild chase. Each of them has 6-10 files under its name.

But this still is less than a third of what v9 includes.

On the third or fourth re-install, I went back to PD9, installing SmartSound because it had all the music files. Next, I installed the upgrades, but did NOT allow PD10 to delete SmartSound! Upon completed install, all MagicMusic files that were in PD9 remained in SmartSound of PD10. So there you have it!

You should ask Tech "support" about that, showing the proof, and post the reply. Also, maybe Smartsound would like to know. HP Envy Phoenix/4thGen i7-4770(4@3.4GHz~turbo>3.9)

I've found the SmartSound folks to be knowledgeable about PD and very willing to help. Jerry Schwartz

Paul -

I can't guarantee this will work, but here's how it was in PD9...

If your duration at 3 is set too low (short), not all the tracks will be available. Try setting it to (say) 00:02:30:00.

Cheers - Tony

Example of above for Bach Guitar - don't ask me to explain why. Don't have a clue.

Duration set to 55 seconds or greater = 14 variations available
Duration set to 50 seconds = 13 variations available
Duration set to 30 seconds = 8 variations available
Duration set to 25 seconds = 12 variations available
Duration set to 20 seconds = 4 variations available
Duration set to 15 seconds = 8 variations available
Duration set to 10 seconds = 4 variations available
Duration set to 5 seconds = 5 variations available

Dear Pathetic Star Giver -

Could you please confirm whether or not this is the case with your PD10?

No? Then say so. Yes - then confirm. It's simple. Leave out the baby stuff & try to help the guy solve his problem.

If I'm wrong, I'm happy to hear it it. If I'm right, maybe it'll help someone.

Apparently so Jerry!

Here are the same results for PD10 Ultra 10.0.0.1012

Bach Guitar
Duration set to 00:00:55:00 - 14 variants available
Duration set to 00:00:50:00 - 13 variants available
Duration set to 00:00:45:00 - 14 variants available
Duration set to 00:00:40:00 - 14 variants available
Duration set to 00:00:30:00 - 8 variants available
Duration set to 00:00:25:00 - 12 variants available
Duration set to 00:00:20:00 - 4 variants available
Duration set to 00:00:15:00 - 8 variants available
Duration set to 00:00:10:00 - 4 variants available

It follows that - since 00:00:30:00 is the default duration for Magic Music in Preferences - resetting it would allow all variants to be available.

I humbly assert that this is what Paul's problem probably comes down to.

Cheers - Tony

Got it checked out-- finally! Yes, there are fewer options available at shorter lengths of time & more available at longer lengths. Thanks for that info.

When I first installed PD10, by default, the length was 30 seconds. Only one file showed under Bach Guitar, for instance. I didn't think to change the settings to see if more variants appeared.

As I wrote a day or so ago, when I re-installed PD9, changed to PD10, and didn't delete SmartSound in the PD10 install, then the files all showed up.

Many thanks for all the info, and have a good day!

Glad you got it sorted, Paul.

Guess the lamb will continue to remain silent... maybe next time it could engage in more adult discussion.

Cheers - Tony

In a somewhat related matter, because I had been under a false sense of safety, I was not paying attention, and deleted my entire Smartsound library during my rollback somehow. 800 track$.
Fortunately I had it backed up. I thought we had safe-guards in place.
Folks---BACK UP YOUR SmartSound LIBRARY! HP Envy Phoenix/4thGen i7-4770(4@3.4GHz~turbo>3.9)

Tony,
I've been monitoring this thread and would have rather seen less comments and referencing to the stars in general. Removal of the stars is under consideration.

Re your SmartSound report. Pretty good. I do have one observation, more of a complaint really. Please chose a different SmartSound next time to run a test on. The one you've used was the basis of a pipe tobacco/cigar TV advert (30 years ago) in the UK at least and I keep recalling it - darn music association gets into one's brain!!!

Barry, as ever, a good point about backing up.

Dafydd

1. I used that as the test because it was the first one referenced by the poster. It applies to all SmartSound tracks.
2. At no time during testing did I hear any music.
3. I didn't start the stars references. Someone with nothing to say did. I am not responsible for others' stupidity.
4. "Pretty good"? It was the answer!
5. How long does it take to remove a module from a forum even after management agrees?

... but I do agree that the silly personal jibes and nonsense people go on on with does NOTHING to encourage healthy discussion or resolve issues.

Edited at moderator's request.

I'm now concerned about item 3 in your list and recommend you edit your post immediately and remove your crude reference, totally unacceptable on your part.

Dafydd;
CONSIDERATION!!?? Just get rid of them!! I welcome Tony to the "4 STARS" club with open arms (if I don't get demoted to "3 stars" because of this)!!

Tony;
Consider replacing T.W.*.T with "twit" which I think will be more acceptable (but don't trust ME to know what is acceptable...LOL).

Paul98503slk ;
Did you update your sound and audio drivers?? BOTH need to be updated and will help.
