Is anyone else having problems with PD9 and this driver?

PD9 starts OK, opens a project I'm experimenting with that has five imported .MTS files and one MP3.

After tweaking the settings for a bit I am able to edit for 10 or 15 minutes, at which point the screen blacks out and comes back with the apparently common and dreaded "driver stopped and has been restarted" message.

I realize there is a protocol for gathering information and submitting it for review and I will attempt to do that when I get home. In the interim, just wondering if anyone else is having this problem since updating to the 280.26 driver. ...

Hi Vapian -

I haven't had any issues so far, since installing the new driver. I just installed mine "on top of" the previous driver.

It's worth asking the question because there are times when these problems don't appear universally. Posting your PC details will probably help those with a technical bent.

Cheers - Tony

That Nvidia driver update was a total disaster for me. Installed it - immediately the Nividia control panel disappeared, then my display went totally wonky, programs were freezing and freaking. I ended up doing a system restore - All is back to normal, except the control panel still can't be found.

I wanted my driver up-to-date for Power Director, but after the hell I went through--- I don't know what to do. Online I see other users are having problems, control panel disappearing and other problems.

That's one of the things that happened to me too! -- I took a deep breath, crash dived the computer - and after two more tries, I got a screen, but it was totally scrambled. Soon after, I was going for the system restore to go back before the driver update.

I really think there's something screwed up with that update, unfortunately.

You're right -

People having issues all over the place!

I guess lots of them will be rolling back to a stable version...

Apparently, NVIDIA is aware of the problem.

Hi, Ynotfish - Thanks for that - I've never had to roll back a driver before, so did it the drastic way, doing system restore. Now after seeing your screenshot of course I realize I've seen that roll back option in the device manager many times - Much better. Thanks---but hopefully I won't have to use that soon!

Guess I was actually one of the fortunate ones in that other than PD9 I haven't had any other errors with respect to the 280.29 driver.

When I got home I ran the DXDIAG's then downloaded and ran the four "cleaner" utils for PD9 and associated programs, then reinstalled PD9 and the Content Pack. So far it's more stable - it hasn't crashed yet - but there are a couple of odd behaviors with respect to maximizing the screen that I don't like, and general lack of responsiveness that I would not expect from a 64-bit native program in a project utilizing just 1/20th of stated maximum streams.

But, given the apparent issues with the Nvidia driver, I'll hold that opinion until the next driver release and just see how well I make it through my next project.

Thanks for weighing in, folks!

Septimus -

You're obviously not a Crisis 2 player using a GTX 580. Those guys are crashing all over the planet!

Apparently, the new driver doesn't correct any of the Optimus issues Adrian wrote about here http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/17598.page#89472

Doesn't rolling back help?

As far as I've worked on different things;
no problem here.
Just something.

Barry;
You may be able to use "Safe Mode with Command Prompt" to access a prior restore point. Often works when nothing else will:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/304449

I have noticed a few BSODs with the new Nvidia drivers. In the past, this is an indication of problems with the newer Nvidia drivers. Usually takes a new release from Nvidia to fix it.

1Nina;
Since you use the older build of PD9, I wouldn't think your experience is typical. IS that correct?
