Problem with Installation

Dear All,

I have been using a trial version of PowerDirector9 with much success and purchased a boxed retail edition of the program. Before installing the full edition, I uninstalled the trial version. The program, however, will not install from the disk. Following is the sequence of events after inserting the Cyberlink PowerDirector9 CD.

1) Normal installation screen and request for language appear

2) After selecting English, the following pop up appears: “This setup will perform an upgrade of ‘Power Director’. Do you want to continue?

3) After clicking on yes, the resuming install shield wizard screen appears.

4) The next screen displays CyberLink PowerDirector is configuring your new software installation

5) A new pop up appears: “ Setup could not find a file on the specified path or disk…. Unable to locate the file D:\PDIR\PowerDirector.msi” with cancel or retry options

6) After retry fails, a 1625 feature transfer error appears. This installation is forbidden by system policy. Contact your system administrator. (I am attempting to install the software in an administrator account).

When viewing files on the installation disk, it appears that the PowerDirector.msi file is in the PDIR folder.

There appears to be no corruption with Windows installer as I have been able to install other programs both via CD or DVD and download.

Virus and malware scans both in normal and safe modes were clean.

If any of the above installation descriptions are unclear, I can provide screen captures (saw attachment limit of 3 so did not in this original post). Diag Reports attached.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions,

Rich

1625 is often the windows installer msg when a corrupt install or fragments of an install are still around and you are installing again. If my PC, I'd probably try 2 things.

1) Cleaner tools: http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/15688.page
2) clean out temp dir

Try Again

Thanks for the advice Jeff. Since the previous application was a trial version and I use a more powerful uninstaller than the standard one supplied in windows, I did not immediately think of leftover files before posting on this forum. After posting, I started going through the registry, found a few orphaned files, deleted them, and installed the full version which appears to be working.

I will, however, be keeping the links to the cleaner tools which will save significant time from manually going through registry files for any future installs/reinstalls of PowerDirector9.

Thanks again...I really appreciate the time and response,

Rich
