Are the PD8 .pds files usable with PD9 or will I have to recreate all my templates and files? How is the compadibility with PD8 files with PD9? Do they convert over to PD9 on the first open and then not reversiable?

Yes... you are correct. Your PD8 projects are upward compatible to PD9. BUT PD9 projects are not backward compatible to lower versions. I would suggest to backup your PD8 projects and keep them is a safe folder. Just in case you need to go back to PD8. Once you load a PD8 project into PD9 and save it... the PD8 version is gone and is now a PD9 version.

PS... Many (many) years ago I was stationed in Syracuse... USAF... Been to Buffalo many many times, and my last job here (retired from it now too), on of our jailers was/is from Buffalo.

what about like:

Media Source Error:
Cyberlink PowerDirector could not construct the media source as a graph. This may be due to the lack of decoding filters for the file you are trying to edit.

jetseen

It appears to be a sound file issue involving codecs.

Make sure you have updated codecs. Also make sure you have the most current drivers, and codecs as PD9 is very finicky about having those.

look at this thread from the Director Zone forum

http://directorzone.cyberlink.com/posts/list/1895.page

A simple google search found lots of info on this.

Also next time it would help to start a new thread instead of tagging your question to an existing post. For search reasons.

Jim,

It was pointed out to me by someone who I think is one of the most "learned" people using Power Director that I had left out another option when loading up a PD8 project into PD9. You can:

1. Load your PD8 project
2. Do NOT change anything
3. Use the save project as option and save it with a different name

Then you have the new PD9 version and your PD8 version is still intact. I still have a lot of projects in PD8. Like intros exits, credits.

I do not know about the menu templates, but I would try it and see. It will or won't. Got a 50/50 shot at it. I would think so as the menu templates from Director Zone seem to still work when you download one. __________________________________________
