Hello, I'd like to create a faded edge effect on a video clip. In Premiere Elements, this is called a feather edge. I looked high and low but can't figure out how to do it in PD. Can anyone help?
Thanks

Instead of a rectangular feathered edge, there is an oval feathered edge. See the effects: Focus, Color Focus, Spotlight. There's another one but I can't remember which one.

In addition, you can create any feathered edge effect with a photo or graphic program and save the flattened document as a .png file with transparency. Inside the photo or graphic app, the document would have a base layer that is transparent, and another layer on top with a grandiant effect going from black to transparency using a retangular or oval shape.

In PD, the .png file would go on a track below the main track.

You can also add the .png file to the Masks folder, where the PD program is installed, and use it in the PIP designer. There are two files for each mask effect, one is the actual mask and the other is a thumbnail image that represents the effect. The thumbnail image will be selectable in the PIP designer. See the naming convention they use in the Masks folder.

There may be some mask images in the Director Zone you can download.

Hi, thanks for the reply. Focus is great, but the clip I'm applying the effect to is a smaller clip overlaying a larger clip, so it doesn't work. I guess what I need is a mask with feathered edge. I'll try your custom mask suggestion. Thanks a lot!
