Hi,

I've got a large 2 hour video which im trying to cut into smaller clips to place in the media room which i can then tag and make more manageable.

I have figured out how to split them down in the timeline but i can't figure out how to then move them in to the media room and then tag them?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Many thanks,

Ben.

Hi Ben and welcome to PD.

You can't drag the split clips back to the media room. You just use the timeline to split and delete the segments of the videos you don't want, then produce the final video. Your original clips are not altered PD just uses the information on the timeline to work out which parts to leave out when producing your video.

Cheers

Ben,

To get scenes that you can drag to the time line rather than the whole clip, you can use this method. (See attached "Detect Scenes files ")
1- Right click on the clip in the media room.
2- Choose 'Detect Scenes'.
3- In the Detect Scenes screen you will see on the bottom left 'Settings, Detect, and Split'. We are going to use the split button only down here.
4- Click on the split button now, you will see a scene show up in the right window.
5- Click the Play button, Pause at the desire spot in the video. Use the forward and/or reverse buttons to move to the desired frame to split the clip. These buttons move one frame at a time. When you have the desired location for the split, click the split button again. Repeat this process to the end of the original clip.
6- Click OK to save the split segments.

This procedure does not actually split the clip but it does save the locations that you have chosen. The clip in the media room will now show a small folder in the lower right corner. To access the segments, click on the folder and it will open up to show the splits that you made in the previous steps. You can then drag any or all of these clips to the time line and use them just like full clips.

The information on the splits is saved with the original clip and can therefore be used in other projects as well.

See the attached files for visual assistance.

Hope this helps.
