DAS PROBLEM IST GELÖST !! PD8 und jetzt auch PD9 funktionieren wieder. Noch habe ich nicht alle Funktionalitäten (vor allem das Brennen von DVD-R) prüfen können, aber auf jeden fall startet das programm wieder ohne Probleme.
Die Lösung kam vom CL Support, die mir innerhalb weniger Stunden folgendes antworteten:

I understand that you are getting error message when trying to launch PowerDirector 9.0 software.
Please follow the below steps and then try to launch the software.
1. Please make sure that you are logged-in as an administrator.
2. Start Windows in Selective Startup mode.
a. Click on Start.
b. Click on All Programs --> Accessories -->Run
c. Type msconfig and click on OK.
d. A System Configuration Utility window will come up.
e. On General tab, select Selective Startup.
f. Uncheck "Load Startup Items".
g. Click on Apply.
h. Click on OK.
i. Click on Close.
j. It will ask you to restart your computer. Click on "Restart".
3. To avoid any compatibility issues, please close all:
- Other software and utility applications.
- Including virus scans, screen saver.
- Instant messaging software.
- Disable ANTI-SPYWARE installed on your system.
- Close any popup blocker installed.
- Close third party firewalls
4. Reset your display settings, screen area to 1024*768 or above, color depth to 16 bit and monitor refresh rate to 60 HZ.
5. Please update your Display card drivers. You may contact your Display card manufacturer or the computer manufacturer to get the latest drivers.
6. Disable UAC using the steps below.
Window 7:
Point to Start --> Control Panel --> choose the option "User accounts and family safety" -->Choose "Credential manager".
Note : At the bottom left corner, you will find a option called "User accounts". Click on it.
Choose "User Account Control Settings" and drag the slider down to "Never notify".
Now try to launch PowerDirector 9.0 software.
If issue persists, please provide the following information.
DxDiag.txt log file.
You can use the below steps to create this file:
a. Start --> All Programs --> Accessories -->Run
b. Type in DXDIAG and press Enter or click OK, this will open the DirectX diagnostic tool.
c. Click on the Save All Information Button (save this file to your windows desktop and name it dxdiag).

Davon habe ich nicht alles ausprobiert, aber die ersten Schritte, wie msconfig und unnötige (für diese Aktion zumindest unnötig) Programme herunterfahren und noch den letzten Treiber ATI Radeon updaten sowie rebooten, all das habe ich gemacht und dann, nach einem shut-down, öffnete ich PD8 ... welche Freude, ES STARTETE ganz normal.
Danach iunstallierte ich sofort PD9, was automatisch PD8 löscht und auch PD9 startete bestens.
Jetzt werde ich morgen alles weitere ausprobieren, habe jetzt aber keine Bedenken mehr.
Fragt mich jetzt nun bitte nicht, was denn nun der Fehler war, ich weiss es partout nicht. Hauptsache ist nun, dass das Programm wieder läuft ... da werden sich die Enkelkinder freuen, denn nun werden die Weihnachtsgeschenke doch noch rechtzeitig fertig.
