Panasonic TM700 - DVD output jerky

Guys...please help! I'm a relatively recent convert from a competing editing product. I must say I find PD8 to be much more user friendly and I got up to speed fairly quickly. I came to PD8 thinking that it could utilize some of the hardware advantages of my new desktop. My system does seem to render much faster than it did with the competitor.

Here's my situation: I've been recruited to film my son's football games and distribute them to eager parents. Because I am distributing the DVDs to individuals who may or may not have HD capabilities on their systems at home, I'm putting everything out on standard DVD (HQ). I love being able to help out, but I just can't seem to get my final output correct.

After unsuccessful attempts to use the TM700's 1080p files (PD8 handles the files fine, but my output to DVD is heavily pixelated, actually looks "smeared"), I decided to transfer all of my files from the camera's memory to DVD using the Panasonic HD Writer AE 2.1 software and then work with those files. That rendering effort takes quite a while, but the resulting output to DVD is great. The HD Writer-created DVDs play fine with any player that I try.

When I take those same files, however, and bring them into PD8, do my minor little editing things (a fade here or there, a few titles, a couple of transitions, some background music) and then use PD8 to create a DVD with a menu, the output is jerky. The video quality itself is fine, I just get these annoying little jerks throughout the video. The best way I can describe the look is what happens when the scene pans from side to side...it appears that the camera was set up on a tripod with "clicks" and the camera jerks to discreet positions as it turns. Obviously, this is not the case...the raw video shows a smooth, fluid pan from side to side.

So, do you guys have any suggestions? Thanks in advance for your help. I thoroughly enjoy reading your posts. If I left out needed information, I apologize, please let me know.

My computer specs are:

• HP Pavilion Elite HPE-270f Desktop PC
• HP part: BK175AA#ABA
• 2.8GHz Intel Core i7-930 quad-core processor1
• Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
• 8GB PC3 8500 DDR3 SDRAM
• 1GB DDR5 ATI Radeon HD 5770 graphics card
• PD8, latest build (downloaded update last night) Reggie

I'm wondering if the issue you've posted here is related to the version of PD8 you're using.

Please retest after the other matter has been resolved and see what results you get.

Dafydd:

With the reinstall of the HP OEM PD8 software, my problem seems to be corrected. I now have two theories:

1. I had inserted my DVD-captured video into a project that was originally created using 1080p clips. Is it possible that the titles and transitions that I left in from the original project retained the old framerate info and therefore caused PD8 to have trouble with the rendering after I imported the new video files? or,

2. I had installed the 3022 patch to my HP OEM PD8. Is it possible that the incompatibility of the 3022 patch and the HP OEM software caused the issue?

Either way, I've got things working...I'm afraid to test either one!

Maybe an HP OEM-friendly patch will be available soon to correct whatever 3022 is meant to address. Thanks again for your help. Reggie
