blu ray disc will not play with out powerdvd update...BUT after update it keeps asking for an update

Last week i downloaded the trail version for powerdvd 10 ultra, i managed to play the blu-rays i bought, and all of a sudden i cant now for a few days, EVEN the same blu-rays that where working.
PowerDVD kept asking for an update after the blu-ray disc is loaded, and wouldn't play the Blu-Ray. After I applied the update the software kept telling it needed to update but then would say no update was available. The problem is it still wasn't playing Blu-Rays. My solution to this was to reinstall the OS but this time I used Windows 7 64bit. I then installed Cyberlink PowerDVD 10 trial. However it's still not playing Blu-Rays. I get an error that says "You must update CyberLink PowerDVD now to continue the playback of this content" Then a Yes and No box. If I click Yes, then it says "Player application update" - "Update Complete". If I click no, nothing happens. It just continues this loop over and over.
I eventually came to a weird conclusion that i may have to buy it because i know that trails can be locked in many ways remotely...so i did spent a fortune...got it all installed no problems, STILL the same problem.

Any ideas?

im starting to doubt my new blu-ray player now :S
this is so annoying it was working FINE a few days ago!

Can someone explain what's happening here? Please

Pproblem with PowerDVD version 8 and 9 and I would NOT like to upgrade to version 10 if the problem will remain. I have reinstalled both versions (version 9 included in Media suite 8, and version 8 included with the new bluray player) but they still keeps requesting to update after I just did it.
My OS is win7 64-bit.
Pretty useless to buy a new Bluray player when it's not possible to use it for bluray discs but only ordinary DVD's.
Please give me some advice.

dw dude i have fix for that just follow these instructions:-

1) Uninstall PowerDVD
2) Reboot
3) Install power DVD
4) Try to play a blu-ray, it will give you a message asking you
to update and take you to an IE page where you can download newest version .
Download and save this somewhere safe.
5) Close power DVD
6) Completley disconnect from the internet ie unplug your cable or
turn off wireless
7) Install the 'new' patch.
Try to play a blu-ray you will see the crap error message we were all
getting forcing you to update. Click NO.
9) Without closing PowerDVD click play again. As if by magic the blu-ray
will start.
It seems by saying no and installing whilst offline you get
around the farcical update.

any questions just ask hope that works for you.

Am having the same problem. This is pretty bad support from CYberlink to not to respond to this issue inspite of so many people asking for it. Their software is also pretty crappy. It wouldnt uninstall well and even if it did, it will leave several things on your machine....

Cyberlink better address this...

install 'Revo Uninstaller' Works a treat choose the 'Advanced' mode for uninstalling it searches for left over registry files and program files on ur whole pc, even if you installed it on ur one of a partition in ur hhd that is.

yes it should work with it - try uninstalling everything using revo uninstaller and choose 'advanced' when uninstalling the PD programs...it will basically uninstall the program and then scan you pc for any left over reg files and and other .dll etc files that may interfere with a fresh install and try it all over again. I should work, i have tried my self many times with PD ultra BD 8 and 9 im going to try it with 10 soon.

Hi! I have been experiencing the exact same problem, and I hope that my post is not obsolete in that it is the 11th of Sept, 2012...

I purchased an external usb bluray read/write drive online from a vender in China. (This is a little suspicious.)
However, I was pleased to see that I also received a dvd containing several hundred megabytes of information on it - some of which being .exe application.
After downloading "CyberLink bd/hd suite" from this selection, I was provoked to update to version (10 I suppose).
PowerDVD (being included in the cyberlink suite) was also installed, from which I was supposed to read/write bluray and dvd etc.

DVD worked fine of course...Bluray did not. I received the "loop" as mentioned above.
I know that my laptop is not 1920 x 1080, and I know that it has an onboard intel graphics card that is probably not the ideal bluray prereq. To say the least, I was worried that it was this that kept me from playing bluray!
But NO, the software is malicious in that it intends for you to purchase its full components (of course -_!

THE SOLUTION
I then looked back to my dvd - I installed "anydvd" -a program that you can download as a free 21 day trial.
This program does something (not sure exactly all that it does). I am pretty sure that it disable certain properties of the disc that prevent you from copying it etc...
Anyhow, when this "anydvd" software is running, PowerDVD DOES WORK. My bluray movie (Gladiator if you must know) began running automatically!!
TO GET AROUND THE FREE TRIAL
I also was gifted from the chinese a program called "fox killer." This program bypasses the registry and encryption techniques on your pc to allow the 21 day free trial to continue without end.

Hope this helps Seth

Power DVD 9. Version 9.0.4105.51
LG Blu-ray BH10LS30. Latest firmware.
Windows 7 Professional 64 bit.

I have the same problem. As this thread is now 2.5 years old, I'm hoping Cyberlink has a solution to it. PowerDVD loops, asking over and over again to install a software update. Here is a screen capture.

The suggestion in this thread, and several others which relate to this same problem, to install AnyDVD is not a solution. AnyDVD works by removing the blu-ray encryption. It is free for a month, and then you have to purchase it. PowerDVD should be able to play blu-ray disks without any help from third-party programs.

I have been having the exact same problem, but I just figured out what I was doing wrong.

The BD disk I was inserting was in 3d. I inserted the regular BD movie and it ran fine. Then I ejected it and tried the 3d version again, and voila! Worked like a charm.

The update is supposed to enable you to run 3d Blu-ray Disks, but this function won't work until you try a regular BD first.
