Why do my blu rays look grainy?

Nothing else that shows in HD on my computer looks grainy but when I try to play a movie with PowerDVD it comes out grainy and kinda dark. Recently bought this laptop and Nivida GTS 360M/HL-DT-ST-BD-RE GBW-B10N drive. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
